Welcome!

In the preferences folder, there should be a pref.txt or something like that. Open it, and search for "Firsttimeplay". Change that from FALSE to TRUE, and that's it.

If it doesn't work, then do this:
Uninstall RTW, reinstall, apply patch 1.2, load game, go in single player->tutorial, play it (it's quick, and you'll learn how to play), and then install the mod. And that should be it.
Inform us of how it goes!

Hmmm...

Have you tried asking over at TWCenter? That's where their "official" forums are.

Hi and welcome d3a7hr0w,
Firstly, you will have to uninstall R:TW. You can do this by entering Control Panel and then selecting "Add Remove Programs" on Windows XP, ME or 98 or "Uninstall a Program" on Windows Vista.

Scroll down the list until you locate an entry named "Rome: Total War". Select it, right click, and order it to unistall. Once you have done that, you can easily follow the wizard's instructions while it performs it's magic.

After you have done that, enter either your "C:\Program Files\Activision" folder, if you have a standard version of R:TW, or your "C:\Program Files\The Creative Assembly\" folder if you have Gold. Within the folder, there will be another folder entitled "Rome - Total War". You have to delete it to ensure that the next installation goes smoothly.

Next, you have to re-install R:TW. To do this, enter "My Computer" and select the disk drive which R:TW is in. Then, double click on the file named "setup.exe".

Simply follow the instructions in the installer as you go along until the game is fully re-installed.

After you've done all of that, you may need to patch up depending upon which version of R:TR you want to install. To check, on the main R:TW menu, simply click on options and, on the top of the screen there should be a number (1.x).

If, in the place of x there is a 0 or a 1 (the full number being 1.0 or 1.1), then you need to patch up to 1.2. That patch can be located here (http://games.softpedia.com/progDownload/Rome-Total-War-Patch-Download-5047.html). Now you can simply download R:TR 6.2 Gold Edition from here (http://totalrealism.net/download.html#6.0-Gold) and then install it.

Alternatively you can play R:TR Platinum Edition, which is the later upgrade of R:TR Gold Edition to the newer R:TW Patch. To do this, continuing from the previous instructions, simply patch up to 1.5 (http://games.softpedia.com/get/Patch/Rome-Total-War-15-Patch.shtml) and download Platinum Edition (1.8) from here (http://files.filefront.com/RTRPE_v18_Full_Installzip/;6730343;;/fileinfo.html). Double click on the installer and follow the instructions. Afterwards you need to delete the map.rwm file found in "C:/Program Files/Activision/Rome - Total War/data/world/maps/base". Then simply play away.

If in place of the x there is a 2 (1.2) then you can simply play R:TR Gold Edition straight away by downloading it here (http://totalrealism.net/download.html#6.0-Gold). If you wish to play Platinum Edtion then you first have to download patch 1.5 from here (http://games.softpedia.com/get/Patch/Rome-Total-War-15-Patch.shtml) and then download R:TR Platinum Edition (1.8) from here (http://files.filefront.com/RTRPE_v18_Full_Installzip/;6730343;;/fileinfo.html). Then delete the map.rwm file found in "C:/Program Files/Activision/Rome - Total War/data/world/maps/base" and play away!

If in place of the x there is a 3 (1.3) then you, unfortunately, cannot play R:TR Gold Edition without un-installing your copy of R:TW, re-installing it and following the instructions for version 1.0 again. If you have Barbarian Invasion then I'm sorry to say that even that is not possible unless you install R:TW without BI. Sorry about that. However, you can play R:TR Platinum Edition by downloading patch 1.5 here (http://games.softpedia.com/get/Patch/Rome-Total-War-15-Patch.shtml) and then downloading R:TR Platinum Edition (1.8) from here (http://files.filefront.com/RTRPE_v18_Full_Installzip/;6730343;;/fileinfo.html). Then delete the map.rwm file found in "C:/Program Files/Activision/Rome - Total War/data/world/maps/base" and play away!

If in the place of the x there is a 5 (1.5) and you do not have Gold Edition, then, without reinstalling R:TW, alone, without BI, you cannot play R:TR Gold Edition. Sorry. However you can still play R:TR Platinum Edition (1.8). First download the great modification from here (http://files.filefront.com/RTRPE_v18_Full_Installzip/;6730343;;/fileinfo.html) and install it. Then delete the map.rwm file found in "C:\Program Files\Activision\Rome - Total War\data\world\maps\base" and play away!

If you have Gold Edition, (1.5) then you cannot play R:TR Gold Edition at all. Sorry. However, you still can play R:TR Platinum Edition. First you have to download the modification from here (http://files.filefront.com/RTRPE_v18_Full_Installzip/;6730343;;/fileinfo.html) and install it following the instructions. However, do bear in mind that the default file-path is different to that of a standard version of R:TW so, when it asks you where you want to install it, change the default file path to "C:\Program Files\The Creative Assembly\Rome - Total War". Then press next and allow the installer to do it's wonderful magic! Once it is complete, delete the map.rwm file found in "C:\Program Files\The Creative Assembly\Rome - Total War\data\world\maps\base" and then play away!

Hope this helps you, good luck, cheers!

Tried the Alexander official expansion?

As for a mod between Greece and Persia, I guess Troy Total War (http://www.twcenter.net/forums/forumdisplay.php?f=51) or Rise of Persia (http://www.twcenter.net/forums/forumdisplay.php?f=65)would do. There is Megas Alexandros (here, at the Org) that's not out yet, but seems to be kind of what you're looking for.
If you want Greeks to be as interesting as Roman Factions are, check the Extended Greek Mod (http://www.twcenter.net/forums/forumdisplay.php?f=127).
I think that's it.

Got the Rise of Persia mod 2 work. But there are 3 thinks i don't like. :wall:
1. Small amount of units (about 6-7 to faction)
2. Low detail (i play at highest and still they don't look good, is there a way to change that?)
3. The mod is suppose to be 4 the rising of the Persian empire, but its getting beatup by the Babylonians, Indians, and some other dudes... (playing @ Very hard difficulity) :inquisitive:

O btw there are 4 regions without settlements. i found the settlements in the Siwa region but how do i get over the mountains? If someone has played this mod pls guide me. :beam:

hey i play the r:tr v6.0 with Parthia, i captured Babylon and constructed an epic stone wall but every time enemys attack the city the gates are open. There can't be a spy in the settlement, i got 3 spyes to couter spy there for ~10turns.
Every 2-3 turns they siegge me, i can't hold more, i ran out of money from retraining the troops. What should i do to close the gates? I tried to rapare the walls but they arent damaged

Hi d3a7hr0w,
Sadly, you have a spy residing in your settlement opening your gates up for the foe! Try to install spy of your own to route them out, or install a governor which has traits that provide public security bonuses. Hope this helps, good luck, cheers!
