French Music

Hello,

I have a problem and I hope someone can help.

I am going to stat a new job and I have to improve my French. Although I had several year of lessons at school, most of that tuff is gone!:cry:

I have never been very good in foreign languages (as some of you may already have noticed~;) ). However, I remember that I learned more English from listening to Roch and Roll than by learning at school. Maybe this could be an approach here too.

So here is my request: What is good French music: good to hear and good to learn French?

Francoise Hardy (http://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/Francoise_Hardy) has clear enunciation and her music is easy on the ears. Quite easy on the eyes too.

Looking at a few of those videos, there's the additional advantage that the camera concentrates on her face, meaning one can watch the lips. Were it not for the fact that she was an extremely popular singer, those videos would almost be object language teaching material.

So here is my request: What is good French music: good to hear and good to learn French?Oh, that depends a good deal on the genre you like. Francophone music isn't limited to chanson. You can find anything, from rock, to hiphop, to rap in French. Lots of world music is in French too.
Also, the French of Piaf and Aznavour is very different from the French of Lunatic and La Brigade, modern suburbian rapmusic.

Assuming you just want to learn intermediate level proper French through French songs, maybe you can try here (http://www.paroles.net/). Lots of lyrics and links. The links of Stig, Phil and Pannonian are great to. If you want more modern music, try the charts (http://www.chartsinfrance.net/actualite/) and check for music styles that suit your taste.

Well you have to give an ear to Noir Desir, even if the lyrics are a bit too abstract to be useful to someone who learns french. It's good rock'n'roll, french way.

La Rumeur, again! A bit conservative in terms of music but with high political consciousness (though a bit too "leftist" for Louis, maybe:clown: )

MC Solaar sounds a bit like Timbaland.

Axiom doesn't even sound like he's speaking French to me, and I don't speak a word of it!
