Ok normally this is not a problem, but in Jaffa my computer,
1.6ghz intel
128mb radeon8500
768 MB pc133 sdram

was eating some serious flaming dog poo. This was with the sound turned to minimum quality as well! Im pretty upset that my decent system is sucking butt in every 3d game once more than a few units get onscreen at once.

#2.
From what I remember with shogun/mi, my far inferior (amd750/256mb pc100 ram/matrox G400 32mb ram) system had no problems handling massive battles all the way up to 2v2 online. (Yeah 3v3 would be slow but its that way for every 1).

#3.
I think the 'improved' models are largely to blame. They probably take alot more rescources to render. I would be much happier with less-realistic but more distinct models (*cough* warcraft 3 *cough* but scaled-down in polygon count) and let the textures be simple with bold colors so that the models look like GOOD video-game troops instead of mediocre realistic-looking troops.

#4.
Personally I dont think these new models make the game any better to me than shogun's units. Graphically the game remains far inferior to most games and doesnt look much better than shogun at all!

#5.
I would get occasional serious graphics problems that would crash the game if I didnt IMMEDIATELY Alt-Tab out. Alt-Tabbing out then opening the game again would fix the corruption.

If anyone has info or anything about being able to get better performance (after the sound is already turned off), or if maybe these problems are only the result of a shoddy beta? I would be very grateful for any response, thanks in advance.

i'm not expecting the final graphics to be stunning, or anywhere near it. it's the style of game that me like, but of cos if the final graphics is 9/10 will be an excellent iceing.

I sure wouldn't! They can't look too real for me.

As for 3D polygon soldiers, they would take more resources to render than the sprites we have. That's why CA uses sprites. To allow huge battles.

Sound should not be turned down on quality but turned down to 0 in SFX settings. Then it will run fine

The prob with the sound is that it takes too much RAM to process it.

At about 516 megs this prob disappears

I have a 1.6 with a 32mb integrated Geforce somthing and 256mb of ram, and everything runs perfect

You have nForce mobo NARF. http://www.totalwar.org/ubb/wink.gif

I am on a Athlon XP 1800, 256mb DDR PC2700 and an old, very old TNT2 32MB. Runs fine on all resolutions.

kalt,

before you flame and blame the game, that particular vid card has had a LOT of problems so i suspect it's NOT the game and more likely your card. post something in the tech forum and take a look over there to see if there's any solutions for this.

my machine specs are less than yours and the demo runs fine on my machine. that card has come up a lot as a problem card, particularly when used on an xp machine. also try turning your sound completely off. there was a bug with the sound that affected some machines. the dev guys are aware of this and assure us it will be fixed in the final release.

OK ok! I still like the game alot but I wonder why the old shogun ran so well but THIS new demo really did poorly (only in the huge battles).

It might very well be my Gfx card although I am loathe to think that such a mainstream card has alot of problems. I know the 8500 USED to have problems when it came out but thats all supposed to have been fixed. O well thanks for the info.
