Meaning: does it add up with melee when charging, or does it act as a standalone value? (aka:for example: do mounted sergeants and knights, both with 8 charge, deal the same charging damage?

Adds to the melee. So the knights got a stronger charge than the mounted sergeants.

K, thanks. I was uncertain because, albeit my initial idea was that, I was a bit uncertain after some ambiguous results in custom battle tests.

I wanted to make a full reform of cavalry, unto four categories:
-Light cav: very, very fast (10-24-6), high charge, low melee, null defense, and low armor.
-Heavy cav: average speed (varying with armor, etc... but around 9-20-22), very high charge (8-11), heavy armor and high melee, but low defense (2-4). Basically, they deal a punch, but it is a good idea to retreat and recharge immediatedly (and apparently the AI realized this), and trying to hold a position staying still is definitedly a no-no. I upped their defense because at 0-1 it is just too low, and they get minced. Now low period stays at 2, high at 3, and late at 4, of course all with exceptions

Melee cav, light and heavy: pretty much same as above, only with lower charge and higher defense..
