I'm a big fan of Shogun: Total War and was very disappointed they never released the strategic multiplayer component to the game.

I just read the FAQ on Medieval Total War and it said they aren't going to put it in at all.

I'm wondering why?? This was my most wanted feature in Shogun. The battles have more meaning to me in the context of a greater conflict. There were some people who said it would take to long but I've played plenty of long multiplayer games like Civ, Alpha Centauri, MOO2, etc.

I wonder if they ever plan on adding strategic multiplayer to the Total War series of games.

Anyone else as disappointed as I am? I'm still buying the game but it just makes me upset that they didn't put the feature in.

Agree. Even a strategic mulitplayer with auto resolve would be interesting.

Yep I'm dissapointed, but worse things could happen I suppose. Of course there is always the wonderful xpack, but lets get the original game out first.

i think its the most wanted feature in this game, they didnt managed it yet and i doubt they will give it with MTW ....

this is somehow a prob for them http://www.totalwar.org/ubb/frown.gif

imo, it would be great, if i could play with the other guys with more than just single battles...i could kick ur ass with more time http://www.totalwar.org/ubb/biggrin.gif

It would be great to get together with a bunch of friends and play a massive 12 player campaign on the net http://www.totalwar.org/ubb/biggrin.gif

Well they have never said they will include it in MTW after what happened with MI and STW. They have problems implementing the strategic units like spies and Shinobi I beleive someone from CA said.

shiro,

you shld know by now that no topic ever dies here; it just goes into hiding, grows fangs, and rises again when you least expect it ;)

for the rest of you, do this: sit down with pen and paper and begin working out how to do a multi campaign. i'm not trying to be a smart-ass here. i'm quite serious. it's an interesting exercise. and yes, i'd love to see a multi campaign also, even a limited one.

I've tried this, it was quite fun... and you could just pick it up and leave it whenever you wanted. Wrote up an excel spreadsheet and used a big printout of the map. Very fun! Using the game for the actual battles.

Well, in strategy game there is no flanking, no holding, few real-life tactics...more of pseudo. I still prefer the battle mode a lot. That's where raw skill is clearly seen.

But to win the strategy mode I guess you need intelligence, wisdom and even, patience. I hope Total War 3 has it...

Not being able to make a multiplayer campaign could be a:
- lack of creativity amongst the developers
- lack of marketing interests by teh producers
- or both.

I am aware of certain complexity and obstacles, but our Great Khan challenges anyone in his believe it can be -easily- done.

If the order of simultaneous movement is a problem than just let sides invest in initiative teh next round by spending florins... just like in the board game Samurai Swords.

And for bedtime thinking....

Dont think in problems, but think in solutions.

Elmark's Ugly campaign is about to start it's second run through now. It has 9 clans each controlled by a single player and a few ronin provinces controlled by a 10th player. The geshia and ninja strategic units have been omitted but otherwise it tries to stay close to the single player campaign. It's quite a bit of work for the person coordinating the information, but it looks very promising and can probably be adaptabled to MTW which would no doubt require simplification of the strategic part of the game.

Full implementation of the strategy portion of the game can be done but would have set back the release of the game by half a year or so?

Then there would still be all the problems related to player management.

Stripped down versions of the strategy portion are possible, and ElMarko's and the Wolves' campaigns have proven that.

So, no Multi Player Campaign in MTW. Not an official one anyway. Let's hope there is enough material to provide means to the community to make something nice.

yeah i'm sure the modders here can try to work on something big when the game is realesed.

Would be great to have an unofficial -proper- online campaign.

P.S. Erado whats with the new name?
