Since there is a thread about military service (that turned out to be a thread about asthma...) I thought I could open a thread about alternative civilian service. Anyone done that and if so, what?
I worked on a cemetary for 13 months. Creepy, eh? Well, not really. It was mostly gardening, lawnmowing, counselling elderly ladies and digging a hole from time to time. Actually the most relaxed time of my life.
Civil service you say. Is that instead of compulsory military service or serving time in jail?

I'm not sure what you mean, I'm currently a civil servant but I also worked for free for the government while unemployed, not sure which one applies.

I think that's what he means.
I would've done it but the military didn't want me so I didn't have to do anything.:beam:
Well, I started studying and considering my progress so far, one could say that the extra year was needed.:sweatdrop:

Sorry, should have made that clear. With civil service I mean the form of service you can do in - countries with conscription - instead of the military service.
