Given that my chanting for an expansion has gathered support (thanx griz http://www.totalwar.org/ubb/biggrin.gif) . . . The question of the day is . . . well, the topic of this post http://www.totalwar.org/ubb/tongue.gif.
I'll start:
1. Fight-able naval battles
2. a couple more factions (personally, I'd like to see playable Norwegians, but if they decided to do Hungarians and/or Lithuanians, that'd be cool too)
3. better seige action (i.e. more leeway to set up the defense of your own castle, maybe more things like ladders and other ways to get into the castles.
those are my top three, I'd like to hear yours.

I'd want to see something where, the point in the province where you place your army actually matters. What I mean is, if you think of a province like Shinano, or like Mutsu, they're pretty big. It doesn't matter at all where in the province you have your army (at least I don't think it does), when someone invades it, they're going to be in the fight anyways. I think it might be cool to see something where, if you put your troops real close to the invaded border, then they'd encounter the enemy troops quicker, but it might be more expensive to support them, cause they'd be farther from the castle for supplies, etc...something like that. But if they weren't near the border, and were by the castle, the invading army would pillage the countryside all the way till they met up with one of your armies. And if they encounter only one unit of 60 men, then those 60 men would have a choice to fight, and maybe send a messenger to get help (the message might either make it or it might not, depending on the honour of your messenger), or they can retreat in the hopes of getting help along the way. Just a thought.
HELL NO EXPANSION!!! Patches yea. Some were not pleased with the expansion to Shogun. Let them get to work on TW3 and not waste time on the original.

A long long time ago before STW itself debuted I, Kongamato, lurked throughout the ancient Totalwar.com. Within this early site, I found a section of downloads entitled "Living Movies". Unbelievable things not seen in the game appeared here. A single horseman galloping down the valley... A small unit of no more than 30 men drilling on a hill... And the most interesting: a lone man standing guard, patrolling the balcony of a Large Castle. So, if any of you are wondering if you could place units like archers on castle walls or balconies, CA can. I have seen it.
That or I am insane.
If you have seen these movies too, do say so.
I don't see any reason for the coming back of the throne room. In STW, it's pretty useless anyway.
The only useful feature of the throne room is the ability to see who owns the province (all provinces are colored by their owner).
The emissary screen is just a waste of time. It's nice for the first few times. After that, it's boring. I always hit the space bar to go to the accept/decline decision. Sometimes, I even disable the throneroom.
The old man on my left, once I thought that he was the wise man who can offer me some advise. I was wrong big time. He only knows one thing and he only says that one thing everytime I asked.
For MTW, even thought the game may offer more diplomatic/strategic/management elements, I still prefer the pop up screen system as it is now. Why? for a slow PC, loading the throne room graphic might become a nightmare.
Aelfred,
What is the throne room? Simply a different screen. It's pretty nice. You will be at the throne room everytime you meet with other clan's emissary or Dutch/Portuguese messenger. You can also access the throne room by clicking on the throne room icon in the left of the panel. The icon is displayed as a Japanese style sliding door with your clan symbol on it. In the throne room, there is a Geisha sits in front of you. She is like a statue. There is an old man on your left. Click on him and he talks. There is a map of Japan on the table. All of the provinces are color coded by their owner (very useful sometimes). White = Rebel/Ronin. Yellow = Oda. Black = Takeda. Green = Shimazu. Red = Mori. Purple = Hojo. Blue = Ueg (can't spell it). Light blue = Imagawa. Click on any province on the map, you will be back the the normal strategy map (it suppose to put you at the province that you click on, but sometimes, it doesn't)
The throne room is available in both original STW and WE/MI. In WE/MI, the throne room may be disabled by default. Enable it in the Option menu. If I remember correctly, throne room is inaccessible in Mongol Campaign. If you have STW, try it to see if you like it or not.

Missed the target.
What do I like to see in MTW expansion?
Can't tell until I actually play the game. They may do some thing like the MI expansion.

I think they should have throne rooms in M: TW.
They really added atmosphere to the game.
This is a topic that will run and run and a great one to raise. Certainly beats all the why didn't they do this or that!
Construtive feedback is what the devs need and this thread should be used to do just that.
Seasons - not sure on until I have played full game. Option for longer game will be great, but only if AI can cope. Wouldn't want to play seasons if AI is crap at it.
Naval Battles - would be extremly nice, but need to play full game. Don't think variety of ships is enough to enable this.
More units - I always want more units to choose from as long as they fit the balance.
In STW we have mongol units added which gave some great variety, but some of those unit ideas are already in MTW such as Naptha Throwers, Javelins etc..
So would like to see some of the units that people think historically should be there.
But things like elite type units such as Battlefield Ninja's and Kensai type's but in Kensai terms shouldn't be so powerful and a little cheaper/quicker to train.
Soemthing like catapults to fire flaming oil barrels that spread on impact, to do more troop damage in sieges, but can't knock walls down.
Arrow shielded units
Battering ram!
More buildings, castle changes etc..
More of everything.
Kongamato, I havn't seen the movies but the idea of men on walls can be done, but the question is can the AI do it well enough?
I have mentioned before that Stronghold does it, but that game works by using superior AI numbers against a human. In MTW that wouldn't be the case.
If you mean just have the graphics there so arrows don't just come from walls then I don't think it solves the issue. For me I accept that arrows come from walls where men would be normally. If a man was up there, then why can't you shoot the man? Why can't my men scale the wall? You have a whole host of issues and features to implement. Walls also come down in huge sections in MTW not in individual blocks like they would in reality and again as they do in Stronghold.
Perhaps MTW 2 will achieve all this and more.
Throne room - sure have it to add atmosphere but allow it to be a switchable option, and everything that could be done in Throneroom could be done elsewhere in the game interface.
I go with the idea the more switchable options the better as long as they add to the gameplay options or overall feel of the game. Too many options and some gamers will go back to FPS games and that would be a shame.
I have talked enough I think for now, dying to go read the other threads so I'll shut up and come back with a million and one other ideas later.

As to the AI usage of wall archers, you are right that it would require a lot of work. I only would like to say that I saw that having a man on the balcony was possible and had been done, but in a way that was not suitable for combat.

as far as no expansion . . . I think some of these ideas are too big to fit in a mere patch . . . but could definitely fit into an expansion. Others may not even work in an expansion . . . but still . . . man, I love the idea of naval battles in 3D! http://www.totalwar.org/ubb/smile.gif
Naval stuff...make some of the non playable factions playable...
Naval battles don't really go along with the entire theme of TW. Since Sun Tzu is programmed into all the mechanics of the system, how would that work for a navy? I would love having the navy in 3D but it just seems a little out of reach.
A couple of new factions would be great(Scots!) Maybe adding a choice between if you want to use seasons or years. More vices/virtues and units. More of everything really would just be great.

Ok, you'de basically click on a throneroom button when your on the strategic map. This will bring you to the room. Now in STW the room had a giesha sitting to your right and an advisor sitting to your left. If you click on the advisor, he'de bow and give you a bit of knowledge straight from the pages of Sun Zsu's The Art of War. Also, when an other daimyo sends an emmisary, you meet with him in the room and you deny or accept a treaty of some sort. Same thing if the Portogese or the Dutch your audience (they both have their respective accents). Also, if you send a emmisary to a daimyo and he denies it, maybe one of your generals will enter the room with his HEAD! I though it was a very cool feature....
And now, when the throneroom could be a whole lot better, it's not in...oh well.

More factions!
GAH!
More factions.
They mentioned in a preview somewhere that "new units" would be available to download at later times. If they can do it, so too do we want to. So give us a unit editor!
Naval battles like those in Centurio? I'd buy that for a dollar!
MP "scenarios"... not full-blown campaigns, as those prove too unwieldly. But, Magy-style scenarios, where you have a string of battles, would be nice. Would be nice if you could have branches in there. Like, if Defender wins battle B, goto battle C. But if attacker wins battle B, goto battle D, unless the defender lost 80% of his army, then go to battle E.

GAH!
Multiplayer campaign. If I can sit through Civ2 multiplayer (and soon, Civ3 multiplayer) I think I could easily bare a M:TW campaign.

I prefer frequent patches to expansions. I think that whatever is being worked on in the bowels of CA as TW3 should be a higher priority, although I understand that MTW has to make money first.

Really??
hmm I'll enable the Throneroom again http://www.totalwar.org/ubb/biggrin.gif.
maybe they can make it more usefull by letting the Geisha dance sexy if you click on her http://www.totalwar.org/ubb/wink.gif, or let your advisor actually advise you...about alliances etc.(if a daimyo cant be trusted that he should say something like that...).

Multiplayer Campaign, definitely. The community is close knit so it wouldn't be a problem to play a game, save it, then pick up where you left off the next day for an hour.
Pitch.. lots and lots of pitch. Which can be heaved in either flaming globs or just scalding.

Yager,
So you'll be using the Byzantine Naptha throwers a lot then, I reckon? http://www.totalwar.org/ubb/biggrin.gif
Ooo yes. Though, now that I think about it, I'm going to be in a lot of trouble if it is raining during the battle.
Catapult Captain:
"Fling the flaming ball of pitch!"
Enemy Lines Before Being Hit:
"Oh no, a ball of pitch!"
Enemy Lines After Being Hit Numerous Times:
"Another batch of lukewarm pitch? Quite refreshing. Make sure to thank the enemy general later chaps."
You know what would be nice, a cossacks like total war, totalwar 3 that is

let them get MTW right first before making an expansion, after patch 1.30 it'll be ok i guess http://www.totalwar.org/ubb/rolleyes.gif
I know it's *way* too much to hope for, but I'd love to see an expansion take us into the Rennaisance Era, to then end of the Napoleonic Wars or thereabouts. I know, however that that'll never happen. For one thing, it would take too long to do. Another problem is that since you'd be using almost all-gunpowder troops in the Ren. era, it would render castles almost completely obselete. Oh well, it won't stop me from dreaming....
