View Full Version : Getting "Hot Topic" too easy?

IMO the requirements for a Hot Topic are too low - if you look at the EB forum, for instance, every thread that's more than like 1 hour old becomes a Hot Topic, even if it has about 3 posts in it.

Could you increase the requirements for a Hot Topic?

Cheers! :beam:

At least in the RTW skin, there actually isn't a separate indicator for a topic being 'hot' at all - the 'hot topic' indicators listed at the bottom of the forum window are identical to the 'normal topic' indicators.

Consider that you are using the EB forums as an example.

The Frontroom, EB and Backroom forums are well visited ones. However, if you post something in the Spartan Total Warrior forums for example, it'll most likely take a few days to get hot topic status.

Hmm, perhaps this obstacle could be resolved by having the number of views/posts required set for each individual forum? I'm not too sure if the forum's software has the capacity to do that though. It also would take alot of time to implement since the administrators will have to perform research into whether the new numbers are suitable or not.

Nice idea - or maybe have a blanket rule of hot topics being in the top 10/20/whatever percent in a forum in terms of daily views or posts, so that topics can stop being hot and "Hot Topic" will actually mean there's a lot of debate and discussion going on at the moment in this thread.
