On a whim, I decided to post here about a battle I just won as the Danes(XL mod/Normal/Early). I had just taken Pomerania from the Lituanians while trying to suicide a bad heir. Surpriseingly enough, the lithuanians picked that turn to move all the troops out of their to take another province. So, the next turn I moved my troops into lithuania to kill the prince. The prince and all his unit died, except for one lone RK, who retreated to pomerania. An army of 200 slav warriors popped up the next turn as loyalists, so I decided to see if I could win. Since I obviously couldn't fight them, I decided to just run the time limit out. So, I put the speed slider up to max and simply used my lone royal knight to outrun them until the time limit ran out. Then the enemy units were considered "captured" so I ransomed them back for 500 florins:2thumbsup: . Anyone else have a time when they used a dirty trick to beat up on their opponents.

This was not a dirty trick, but it's equally cheap.

It was in a desert province, I don't know which one anymore. My garrison consisted of one unit of feudal spears and one depleted unit of archers. I was attacked by a Egyptian prince (with some stars) and his retinue. I don't know anymore how such a small battle came about but it could've been a close fight because of the extra valour on the prince.
I stationed the spears on a good dune with the archers behind them. But there was a sandstorm and I couldn't spot the prince. As I was the defender it would be foolish to seek him out. I just sat there until the timer ran out. I never saw the royal knights.

I once defended Rome with a garrison of a unit of 2 peasants against the resurgent Papal States...

...needless to say it was a massacre.

Bah. The battle timer is for sissies. ~;p Actually, I understand its usefulness all too well, and I don't mock anyone that uses it. It's just that I personally derive little satisfaction from winning that way; I much prefer to win & lose on my own merits (or lack thereof!).

I'd have to say that most of my cheap victories come from when one of my artillery crews gets a "lucky" shot and kills the enemy general. It's for that reason that I almost never purposefully place artillery pieces in my defensive garrisons anymore -- they're just way too accurate at targeting enemy commanders.

Well, I'll admit that I've used the time limit to my advantage before in a couple of hopeless defensive battles. Once, as Hungary, I was attempting to defend Venice against the Italians, who had a force 3 times my size. I ended up winning because I had 2 units of Szekely running all over the map, neither of which the Italians could catch.
