Hello all.

Does anyone know of any free music file editing software?...and no, Im not pirating music or anything like that.

I just wanted a program that lets you do very simple things to an Mp3- such as adding a fade out at the end of the track for example.

Many thanks to anyone that can help.

Check out Audacity (http://audacity.sourceforge.net/).

Hello to anyone who can help.

I finally got around to trying out the music software that was recommended above...Ive worked out how to cut up a track and apply a fade out (arnt I fantastic? :laugh4: )

But when I try to export said edited track to an mp3 I get some message about the program does not do this (why on earth not!?) and I need some other bit of software to do this...

Any experts on this program offer any advice? :help:

Many thanks in advance.

You probably need the LAME encoder library to export mp3s. mp3 is a proprietary format (for now), IIRC there are licensing/patent issues with encoding (but not decoding) mp3s. You can get LAME here:
http://lame.sourceforge.net/index.php

If you don't want to fool with LAME, you can save it as a WAV file, and use CDex to convert WAVs to mp3. You should get CDex anyway, it's a good CD ripper.

How about this: http://www.kreatives.org/kristal/index.php

I never took notice of this one, but when I quickly glance through the site it seems that for a free program it's damn fine.
