Specifically the Sweboz frameman . Does anyone have a good site for cheap material or something complete that would work for there clothes ?
I do have some experience with fabricating stuff . I went out as Pyramid head from SH 2 back in the 8th grade . Even made the giant ass sword.

WELCOME TO THE CLUB!!!!!
I suggest you go to a thrift store , there they sell clothes, cloth, coats and stuff for real cheap. Spend about $25 bucks and you will have more than enough building material. (look in the yellow pages if you don't know where one is, or if you have friends in theater ask them)
The problem though.... is.... Will you alocate enough time to make your costume???????
For the past 3 halloweens I've had to make mine in the same day! It came out ok, but it would have been much better had I given it enough time.

Oh I plan on starting right now .My costume is pretty easy to do . I've already got the leather to put over the shield . I can't get real spears so I'm just going to spray paint the spear head part silver . And I might , key word maybe make some scale armor . It wouldn't be impossible that a frameman might have had one , or atleast studded leather .
Now lets laugh at me , a black Sweboz frameman .

Well if worse comes to worst and you are too short on time just get a belt, a sword, a shield, and a helmet. Then you'll have enough to go as a Gesatae:2thumbsup:

I've actually considered too going as an Ethiopian Agema. That would be easy too . Just make some scale and cut out the leather for leg guards and I would be set . And it would be kinda appropriate . Cause I get to party like a rockstar at the weekend Halloween parties I have to go with my sis on her rounds out at night.

You stole my idea!
I think I might dress up as an EB unit for halloween as well, something from KH or maybe a Casse Rycwyre(sp?) or swormaster.

Honestly barbarians are the easiest . There equipment if you have to make it isn't WTF advance(glares at the aspis.) and there are alot of unarmored choices. Look at my first . Ignoring my embellishment it is extremely easy to make.

Although the Ethiopian Agema is slated for removal, due to that the evidence used to design unit was slammed in a scientific article.
As for which unit...well if I had had the money, I would definitely have tried to obtain a Thorakitai Argyraspidai costume. :clown:
Although if you can get hold of some fake armour or such what about Arverni Arjos?

I bet you see lots of weird threads going around all the forums, so that's an achievement :beam:. Congrats on your 2.0 release BTW! Had a great campaign as Dunland on VH/M. Nice being able to swarm superior troops with five times their number in panicky orcs. There is always another orc :laugh4:.

So wait did they never exist or did armored axemen not appear until the Axum era?

If you have all the materials and the skills to make a costume, the major issue is trying to explain to people that you are
a.) a unit from a stategic war game
b.) to translate the name of the unit into a native language
c.) and that the game is historically accurate.
also imagine trying to make a costume to be a Hellenic cataphract? What wopuld you do for the horse?
I would go as a Macedonian Hetaroi! with my iron breastplate and mail underneath riding on my trusty steed! Everyone would fear me! Plus I would be carrying around a 10+ ft long spear so of course they will fear me. :laugh4:

on the subject of costumes.... I really want to go as a Botroas. But I'll need to get a fake moustache since my facial hair grows VERY slowly even at 21 y.o. :wall: .

This may be a stupid question but what does your being jewish have to do with dressing up as a polybian triarii? If you want to be ironic why not dress up as a Arche Seleukeia unit for Hanukkah? might I suggest Iudaioi Taxeis (hows that for irony) or Argyraspidai?

That wouldn't be particularly ironic either. The Maccabaean revolt only involved a small population of the Jews from the already small population centered around the temple mount. Many Jews served in the Seleukid and Ptolemaic armies and government with major concentrations of them in Antiocheia, Alexandreia, and Babylonia.

I see, no love for Iranian units. I wish I could sound like Al Sharpton and pull the race card, but at the fear of infuriating Russia Almighty which could result in the withdrawal of hashish brownies (So delicious in combination with Jägermeister), I shall abstain from any attempt. *sulks*
I'll return as the Grivpanvar, you little sniveling bitches! You will curse your mothers for punishing you for this pitiful existence of yours, if I am on the lenient mood of mercifully leaving you half-dead after I'm done with ya'll, that is!

He can go indepth about his dislike of the stuff.
I can always lend you sally the camel btw.
Anyway back to the Ethiopian Agema . Why are they getting the axe(pun intended) ?

we jews obviously dont celebrate Halloween- or any christen or pagan holiday, come to think of it. :2thumbsup:
we jews miss out on Christmas, Halloween (although many non-religions jews do go trick-or-treating for the candy :2thumbsup: - but i dont) and easter. but we do have more holidays than any other religion- to name a few, Sukkot, Purim, Hanukkah, Passover, Rosh Hashanah (the jewish new year- but we do acknowledge that January 1st is the start of the civil year), Simchat Torah, and many more. and we have quite a few fast days in between. to top it all off, every Saturday for us is a day of rest- literally. no work may be done, at least for us religious jews. we also get to eat a big meal- which i say is the best part. (mmm..... that BBQ chicken! )
but the part with the Iudaioi Taxeis is really good- i may actually go as that. thanks!

It seems they were a unit in Ptolemaic armies only at the very end of the Ptolemaic kingdom. Hence it wouldn't be historically accurate to recruit them from 272 BC.
Perhaps tying them to the vanilla marian reforms (like the hysteroi pezhetairoi) would be better? I really like them and would hate to see them gone :sweatdrop:

Someone earlier complained no one goes as Iranian units.Would it make you feel better if I said I went as Median Archer last year?
I hope everyone here is aware of the unwritten rule of "Thou shalt take pictures and post them here if thou goes through with this". If you don't, the EB secret police will make you put on the outfit and force you into their text editing labor camps.
