View Full Version : LAGGY DEMO : is it normal ?
Hi all !
I have tested everything :
I have lowered the graph.details,
the sound quality to minimum,
suppressed all the details of the "performance" menu,
new video card drivers installed ...
but nothing !
lag, lag, lag ... poor, really poor fps rate.
why ?
STW:MI was ok with the same computer.
1000Mhz, GeForce II 32 MX400,
384Mb RAM
I'm sure this is enough ... where is the problem ?
Have you the same problems ?
Am I the only one ?
Is it a MTW general problem or is it just the demo ?
Note: I have poor fps only when the camera is in front of units. With pure netscapes, it's ok. http://www.totalwar.org/ubb/frown.gif
please help.

you got to lower your hard drive accecleration
It's just a demo.
The STW demo was COMPLETELY different from the full game - even the music!

Sounds like your AGP bus is running in AGP 1x mode. Check the AGP aperture (info on my site in tech dojo - performance) in the system BIOS. It must be set to a 32 Mb or higher, in your case try 128 Mb. Otherwise your driver might be installed incorrectly. Remove every trace of them (uninstal them, reboot, install as standard VGA, reboot, install new drivers usually does the trick)
Will a moderator please move this into the tech forum?
thx for your help.
I will post other posts like that in the tech forum in the future. thx
but ... MSTW is the ONLY game that does that!
All other games are ok.
mmmm???

I'll take a guess that you have a SBLive soundcard. We've found that updating to the latest drivers from www.soundblaster.com (http://www.soundblaster.com) solves a performance issue. The driver from windows update is an older driver (at the moment)
Please let us know what soundcard you have.
I tried downloading the drivers they had for sb live value cards and when I tried installing it, I got a mising files error claiming I need the disc labeled "creative cd" which I have no idea as to what that is. I've tried everything I can think of and my sound is still none operational. Someone help!! http://www.totalwar.org/ubb/frown.gif

Please state exactly which card you have. Creative Labs have several sources for their downloads, and not all are the same (doh). Also,, I noticed on some driver versions they offer you the choice to download the entire package or the stripped version alone. I find that the stripped version was the safest way to go, especially since you then don't have to put up with some of their crappy software they think is so cool. If you have 4 or 5 way speaker systems I think you need the full version, since that also requires the installation of their mixer module. Make sure you keep well clear of the rest of their gadgets.

I'm not sure if this might help you... It is a 9 MB Download so it looks as if it is a complete install. As it is a german site I do not know if this is for german versions only. Also notice it is for win2k/xp....

The latest SBLive drivers are dated July 2002. The "driver only" version does contain the surround mixer app, and is about 25megs. The one I've grabbed and tested is from www.soundblaster.com (http://www.soundblaster.com)
I recommend uninstalling all SB software first, then installing the new drivers.
