I was checking out the Lord of the Rings DVD and in the "Twin Towers-- Behind the Scenes Preview", Peter Jackson shows off his TRULY AWESOME "Massive" technology:
"Massive" is a computer program that was developed to help the filmmakers construct realistic looking engagements between armies of orcs and humans. What makes it so damn cool is that each individual soldier makes his own decisions about how to fight. Initially all the soldiers stay in unit formation but as the battle commences they begin to do their own thing...some try to flank, others charge headlong...etc.
The visual effect is incredible and Massive technology could be incorporated into the Total War series....well, lets just say it would make my lifetime.
The only problem is the amount of CPU power required to make all those calculations... oh well.
Anyone else know what I'm talking about?
