Hello,
I've been playing MTW again lately and noticed one of my units could dismount. I'd never really used this feature before and was wondering when you can tell them to dismount. I couldn't find the command in the prebattle phase or the deployment phase.

IIRC (was a while since playing) you do it in the deployment phase. You rightclick on the unit and the option should be there. Some cav units can only be dismounted in sieges though, for a normal battle the option is greyed out.

Thank you. I'll give it a try tonight.

If you download Froggie's excellent unit guide from the guides forum that will tell you which units can dismount - some will only do so in siege assaults, others will also be able to dismount in open battle.

Another way you can check this is to download the "Gnome" editor, use this to open the unit_prod file, and to the far right hand side there is a column of dismount info, which will show what unit it will dismount to, and whether or not it can do so in open battle.

Of course there's always good old fashioned trial and error as well, but sometimes it's handy to know BEFORE you set up your reinforcements ~D

I dont know if you even need this information, but in XL all cavalry units can be dismounted in any type of battles, without those restrictions some units (e.g. feudal knights) have in unmodded MTW and VI.
