View Full Version : MTW\'s...satisfying moments

After playing the demo for MTW, I'm looking forward to getting hold of the real thing all the more. I must say that there are 2 very satisfying touches to it. 1: Getting your lovely unit of Royal Knights in the wedge formation and charging down a hill and slamming into a block of peasants....Splat, you virtually run through them!!! 2. Firing off a Trebuchet and landing the lump of rock so that it splats the men (peasants of course!) underneath and then bounces on taking out big chunks of men! It's great!!!
What are your fav. "satisfying" moments after playing the demo?

Knocking down a wall killing all the archers the rubble falls on during the sieging turtorial. It's a great touch.

Watching the towers disintegrate and collapse
Collapsing trebuchets that have been destroyed
Listening to massed arrows being released by the longbowmen - (but being disappointed by how few they kill - even charging knights !? have they forgotten what happened at Agincourt - archers were devastating !!)
The size of the armies and visual spectacle

Watching a well thought out flank with your Chivalric Knights. In all of the Total War games I've enjoyed it when the polearm units (including cav.) would couch their lances/spears as they charged

3 weeks ago? And nothing since? GAH! I'm sorry, but that is clearly a sign things are strained in the Khan's ger.
The Horseman's wives run around him naked all day long, and they never get enough! THAT is commitment!
A 3-week dry spell?

In reply to Tsumamisan
Don't forget that in Azincourt, our chivalry was trapped by muddy land and various traps & obstacles set up by the defending brits. A good part of the death count was due to brits archers finishing trapped knights with daggers.
I hope building such low-but-efficient defences to slow down attacks will be possible. That would be rewarding.

At Agincourt, the French Knights wanted glory and that was ONLY to be found by killing English Knights. They ignored the English Longbowmen AND Men At Arms to their great cost. In addition, the French Knights in the rear kept pushing things forward so that the Knights in the front had no way to retreat once they reached the killing grounds. And as mentioned, the grounds were extremely muddy and the English had set up wooden spikes to channel the French through narrow lanes. Between the Longbowmen's arrows and the Men At Arms swords, there wasn't much in the way of glory for the French Knights.
They did raid (allegedly) the baggage camp in the rear where they killed (allegedly) several boys. So much for honor.
Its a great study of stupidity in war. I highly recommend reading more about it.

Being a former artilleryman, it is fun to read a post where many express that their most satisfying moments in the game were the results of use of seige equipment.
I, also love watching those huge stones arc towards a wall or tower. and love to watch them collapse. It is also a hoot when a stone hits the ground and skips a few times taking out extra troops.
My signature could never be more true.
Cheers
P.S. I have said it before, but if someone would make a game called "Get drunk and blow stuff real good", I just know it would be a huge success.

When the walls fall down in my demo they don't kill anybody, why?
Bigger battle scenes and it's Medieval.

I see the debate about the archers on here and i think that the archers on MTW are quite good, i suppose they should be a bit more powerful, but in large numbers they can serverely damage a unit especially with an advantage like a hill, so i dont think they should change them.
p.s whats this teh khan thing everyone is ttalking about? sounds interesting!

The assassin of night is a dangerous foe, however, the assassin of day is most fear-inspiring and dangerous foe from life and battlefield alike.

"Artillery adds dignity to what would otherwise be a vulgar brawl."
i think artillery adds much to a war, but not dignity since u wont see what u had slaughtered, it makes combat, life and death abstract.
it also add unnecassary losses (Irak, Bosnie, Afganistan)
tho warwagons could be implemented like elephants

My signature is a very old artillery saying, possibly dating back to Napoleon's time, and it really shouldn't be taken literally. It was always meant as kind of a jab at the other branches or the army--primarily the infantry.
There is hardly anything even associated with conducting warfare that could be considered dignified when you get right down to the nitty-gritty of it.
Cheers
