I'm sure this has been covered ad nauseum in the regular member sub-forums, but I was just wondering what everyone's favorite TW music is (original, vanilla music opposed to modded tunage)?
I personally still think MTW's battle music is supreme and unmatched but the other titles. The Arab battle tunes fit perfectly with the sweeping grandeur of massive desert battle royales. The Viking battle music was also top-notch.
RTW music could be quite beautiful at times.
Unfortunately, I think M2TW's music was servicable at best. Few of the pieces were memorable enough that I smiled when they played in rotation....but for me, most of the music in Medieval 2 was adequate background filler.

Personally i prefer the shogun music.
I personally rank the music as follows:
1.) Shogun: The original is still the best for me. Its music is a big reason why the atmosphere is among the best to be found in any game. Whether it's the campaign music or the battle music, it really contributes to the "feel" of the game.
2.) Rome: I know some feel the music is boring and/or repetitive, but I find RTW's soundtrack to be uniformly excellent. For me, it was one of the very few things that really gave the game character.
3.) Medieval: I loved the Arab music as well as most of the new tracks introduced in the Viking campaign. The European battle music is decent but nothing special. I didn't care for the European campaign music at all -- it was just a little too dull & unimaginative for my tastes.
4.) Medieval 2: Adequate, but not spectacular. There's really not any particular piece(s) that stood out for me. Still better than most game soundtracks, however.

1)Shogun Total War-I felt the music was really authentic since whenever I hear the game's music it reminds of my trip to Japan two years ago
2)Rome Total War-I liked the original vanilla music but I feel the EB soundtrack is better
3)Medieval II Total WarI liked the music for the Islamic factions in particular
For some reason I can't remember the Medieval Total War soundtrack

Appreciate everyone's thoughts on this.
I unfortunately never played Shogun...and it sounds like I missed out on a classic soundtrack. :shame:
I agree with Martok on number 3,

Sorry to buck the trend, but the MTW Arab music does it for me, closely followed by the Viking soundtrack.

MTW music is the number 1 piece. The arab songs are absolutely superb!
Closely followed by the STW music.
Hello BoyarPunk,
STW. The battle songs used for the Mongols in MI are my favourite.
Hmm, yes. Either MTW and/or VI had that music for Russian/Viking factions, that was good.

1. Shogun, love the battle and marchup tunes and the mongols tracks are awsome. 5 of 5
2. MTW, being Swedish I really loved the viking songs closely followed by the sweping arab ones. 4 of 5 (5/5 for above ex)
3. RTW, was ok. All was pretty good but no one really stands out. 3 of 5
4. M2, ehh, I really don´t know what to say. I´m not into bashing but I simply don´t like it. 1 of 5
It seems the more professional artists gets a hold of theme music the more it loses in cultural ambience and play feel. Is it just me or has anyone else noticed this too?
I think it was the same artist for all games?
Maybe it's a budget thing? More bucks to spend for M2TW and thus adding too much bells, is that what you mean PseRamesses?

Yes. Jeff van Dyke has been the composer for all 4 TW titles (and their expansions).

This is my feeling, yes. The tracks from Medieval 2 feel....overdone, almost like Jeff was trying a little too hard. They're still decent pieces, but IMHO they don't compare to the other games.

Yup, Martok took the words right out of my mouth. I think JvD is a superb composer but maybee it´s time for somthing different. The cultural, march-up and battle tracks doesn´t quite do it for me.
