View Full Version : Creative Assembly 2 problems I have with M:TW

Im very excited about M:TW but after exhaustively playing the demo I have a few issues with it. Granted things can and will change in the retail version but I feel these problems are worth mentioning.

First off is the annoying pop-ups that occur during a battle. I seriously doubt they could have made these things any larger or more obtrusive! It reminds me of browsing the web with scripting enabled! I hate them! YES I enjoy knowing when a general is fleeing or has been captured but my goodness.. I have a hard enough time finding that perfect spot to click amongst trees or amidst a large battle without pop-ups taking up half the screen! This needs refinement before release.

My next problem with the game is how horrible the mouselook feels when using it for viewing the battlefield. It isnt smooth. You cant adjust the x and y axis seperately. Overall it just feels sloppy, a far cry from the precise smooth feel of a good first person shooter for example.

The final problem I have is dealing with the larger battles in some of the player mods out there. My framerate really takes a hit and it ruins the realistic feeling I get from the bruising battles and nice terrain. Im using a fairly quick system (athlon 1.4, 512ddr, Geforce3). I hope they have optimized things a good bit for release since this demo version of the code because any framelag at all ruins a game IMO.

This said, I seriously cant wait for this release. Its driving me crazy. Ive played Jaffa so many times yet seeing the hoard of horsemen coming over that hill still gives me shivers! Or the carnage of Hastings! Or or.. http://www.totalwar.org/ubb/tongue.gif

I TOTALLY agree with you about the popups. It gets even worse in online battles especially if you have several allies. I can't tell you how many battles have been endangered because of popups that so and so's general is running like a scared dog!!!
If they would make them pop to the upper right corner I would be content. The middle of the battlefield is inexcusable!!!

As to the framerates . . . well, I just ordered a new system to help take care of that. I've been holding off for almost a year, but the time has come . . .

Now the only other problem I have is that I don't have the actual game in hand yet!

You can move the popups to some other part of the screen, and they'll appear there next time.

Running in a higher battlemap resolution (if your hardware can supply it) will make the popups smaller.

Agreed. They are nice for a while but they get annoying if you play the game for a long time. Being able to move them into a corner is a good addition.

Can someone send this to the game makers? Have them make these changes?

Maybe my mind is playing tricks on me, but it seems to me that even after moving them new ones popped up in the middle of the screen. Maybe that was each battle online - or its different for online - I just remember is was danged annoying!

Surely they could give you a choice to make it permanent. (Although at this late date - do it in a patch - don't delay the game!!!)

I have edited the demo, fisrt time i got it, and I am 100% certain that there is the place where you can set the messages that pop up and edit them. What I came up with cannot be quoted here http://www.totalwar.org/ubb/smile.gif , but you can remove the text altogether, after all, they are there for your own convenience.

Do not remember the exact directory but if you are pissed of anywhere near that you sound, you'll find it

I have to agree with Rokkaku here for SP.

But for MP it gets very annoying. Also can cause serious lag for 56kers.

So DOM pleae tell us how and where.
