When I was playing the Romani, every turn (literally) one of my generals would be trying to adopt someone. Its rare if I ever don't get a request. However, when I play as other factions (Makedonia, Sweboz, etc.) I rarely ever get the option to adopt.

Now, what I was wondering was, is this suppose to be this way? Were adoptions into the family normal for the Romans and thats why it's represented this way? Or is it just a bug or something? Cause I've never played a game that had this many chances to adopt someone. :juggle2:

Roman advancement wasn't so much based on lineage like other factions. A prominent name would be important as you could yak and yak about your ancestors in an attempt to make yourself sound more important; however, that being said, Republican Rome wasn't ruled by a single family. To represent that we use adoption and low fertility as an abstraction of the process rather than having a continuous line of biological family members.

The adoptions are a good thing. If we could, there would be no family line for Rome (and KH & maybe Carthage) and they would only get new family members through 'adoptions' or 'man-of-the-hour' events.

I don't treat Roman adoptions as one man getting an adopted son, but rather as a new man rising to prominence in the Roman military and/or political system.

Ah! Ok, I'm glad it was intended! I was pretty sure that it was suppose to be like that and I just didn't know why. Haha, thank you. Now I guess I should start playing my Roman families a little more differently :sweatdrop: :sweatdrop: Though, I'm still going to be extremely picky!

And yeah, Marcus, after reading these posts I could see why you guys would want to get rid of the family line for the Romans.

Sweet :2thumbsup:

Btw, speaking of bloodlines, in my Aedui campaign I have only one FM who is of Aedui ethnicity, and he is nearly fourty. When he dies, is the only way to get an Aedui back in charge by random marriages or adoptions? I have gotten many dozens of FM's by marriage and adoption, but none of them have been Aedui thus far.
