Do Christians have an advantage over the Islamic factions because they can forge alliances at the expense of their daughters? Do Islamic factions at an advantage beacause they can't be screwed over by some inquisition? What are your thoughts?
So not every Playable faction can marry offspring? wow, thats a new concept for me

Are islamic factions "immune" to Catholic inquisitors?

Islamics, Orhtodox and pagans are all immune to ye olde inquisitor aye.
Personally I view the non-interference of the Papacy as a BIG advantage for both Orthodox and Muslim factions.
THe Pope is a right pain the arse as a Catholic Faction.

I think it balances the game well having the pope around, a lot of the catholic factions could run riot if it werent for him, but as it is they have to answer to someone for their actions, they cant just attack fellow Catholics for the hell of it, it adds to the realism and its a nice touch http://www.totalwar.org/ubb/smile.gif
what... no daugthers for islam?
Its not just something to balance the game , i find it very realistic , expecially France , HRE and ITaly were TOTALLY conditioned by Papacy and the relactionship with it , lets think about Federic II for example

I gather the papacy is 2-edged for the Catholic factions. OT1H, it helps start crusades, which apparently are powerful strategic weapons. OTOH, it tries to maintain a balance of power between the various Catholic factions, attempting to keep any one of them from becoming dominant over the others. IOW, the papacy tells the Catholics, "smite the heathens and heretics but leave each other alone."
If that's true, then what should the wise basileus, tsar, or sultan do to the papacy? Is it better to destroy it or leave it in place? Is it even possible to destroy it?

If you take Rome and the Papal States, you can appoint a "puppet" pope (Catholics only). Orthodox factions like the Russian take the zeal out of crusades, Muslims can launch Jihads (which are more so a defensive "holy war" because a Christian has to take a Islamic province to start one), and Catholics launch Crusades (a good strategic move that gives you powerful Crusader units such as the Templar or the Hospitallers).

Well - when there is a puppet pope nobody can launch crusades.... that's the first issue.
Second one is that the papacy "almost inevitably" comes back, sometime, someplace.
So "saving them until the end" is one option (but you then have to put up with their constant interferences or face excommunication problems) OR - you finish them off quick and deal as quickly with the numerous "reincarnations" of the papacy as you go through the Era's.

OK, but what if an Orthodox or Muslim faction takes Rome? They can't (and wouldn't) appoint a puppet pope, so what happens? Is there then just no pope at all until some Catholic faction retakes Rome?
If there is no pope, what is the effect on Catholic factions? Is there a universal drop in zeal? Can crusades still be launched? Will Catholic factions suddenly go after each other without papist restraint or will they unite to restore the Holy See?
