View Full Version : My problem w. EB installation
Hello, I'm a RTW player who wants to play EB long ago. And I have problems
Here is my installation story: I have a clean R:TW Gold version 1.5
SO I dled EB v8.01 and extract and install it. The problem is my default forder was The Creative Assembly, not the EB default forder (I forgot the route, but it's different). After installation it can not be run. I tried to uninstall it but it's just stopped and do not run when I tried to uninstall. So I just deleted the whole things >"< and download again. It's not running, after extractation it dropped. I swear that I dont even know what the heck is going on with me when I deceided to not asking help and go to "regedit", search files related to EB and RTW and ... deleting (I dont remember which files I deleted, but almost every files in regedit related to EB :inquisitive: ) now it's a big problem that I want to play EB, after some tries with other mods - the reason behind it that I want to know more about history of this period through game.
I downloaded the install file again, and now I got "the configuration for this product is corrupted. Contact your support personnel."
I knew I messed up alot, but I'm really looking forward for helping hands on this matter.
Thanks in advance.
*I tried to search around but seems no1 mentioned about this - guess no1 go as far and stupid like me ::(*
This is the ss of the file:

Deleting the folder should be sufficient to remove EB, it's getting RTW reinstalled that requires you to hack the registry and stuff. And you did follow the installation guide (https://forums.totalwar.org/vb/showthread.php?t=80270), so you have a backup of your clean 1.5 RTW, right? Delete the RTW installation where you installed EB and make another copy of that clean one.
If you did not make a backup copy, you'll have to do the registry stuff.
The background picture you have indicates to me that you have non-"US English" characters in your username. The EB installer cannot handle this, so you have two options:
* Create a new user on your computer using only "US English" characters, such as EBInstallerUser or a or whatever. Login as this user and install, then remove the user again.
OR
* Install 7-zip and open the EB installer with it. Extract all the files you see there into your RTW folder.
If you need further instructions please ask specific questions saying what you've done (like you did this time :2thumbsup:) and what you are trying to do.
Hello and thanks ::)
it seems that I didnt make a copy of R:TW in the 1st place, I just uninstall the old R:TW and deleted the mods, and install the new RTW and new mod (well, it works w. TLD and XGM mod so I though ...:sweatdrop: )
I dled 7-zip and extract it and same result as previous attempt.
My user name is in English, btw.
So what should I do now in particular? changing the regedit then made a copy? or have to delete in regedit - new install - new copy?
Btw which exact file I have to delete in regedit :P ? I thought I have read it somewhere but since u r here, plz intrust me ^^
thx for assisting ::)

Well first of all, I don't know what to do in your case.
However, can you revert your system to that of the latest system restore point on your machine?
Do a search for system restore on your PC; see if anything control-pannel-ish is among the results. In my case (Vista) it's called System Restore.
When you've managed to revert to the older system state; you can try to remove all traces of RTW & EB & other mods - the install guide should be of help there - and retry installing everything. This time, you'd better not forget to make a back-up. (While it may not be neccesary per se, in case such as this you will notice just how neat a trick it is.)
It seems that quite a few people have this problem when using Eras or Gold. Is there a way for the installer to detect where the RTW exe is (Activison, The Creative Assembly, etc folders) and install into the correct one?
I found this nice tool (http://www.fileplanet.com/158111/150000/fileinfo/Rome:-Total-War---Uninstall-(Uninstaller/Registry-Cleaner)) to clean out your registry of RTW stuff. It's from 2005, so perhaps it doesn't take everything if a patch has changed what is stored there... But it's worth a try.
Then install RTW again (make a note of the installation folder!) and apply the patches to get it to 1.5. Be sure to make a copy of this installation. If things get screwed, you can revert to this without having to go through with the uninstall/reinstall process.
Then install EB using either the installer or 7-zip. Please verify that you install into the same directory as you installed RTW (that is where you use the note you made of where you installed RTW). Let us know if it works or not .
thanks guys :) it's always worth atry, speciality w/ every1 help, I'll report the result later. But anyway, thx for helping :clown:

I suppose there is - IIRC: the RTW 1.5 patch does just that however it can only be used to upgrade one build on your machine, not any previous made backups - *but* if you want to run multiple mods on your machine, or indeed if you have an 1.2 or older version of RTW Vanilla on your hard drive... Well, lemme put it this way: the result would not be very nice.
We could detect the setting in the registry I think, so those who don't know what it means will be able to just click next and have it work for them? At the very least I think we should check for the existence of RomeTW.exe in the folder that the user selected, if we have that opportunity. Will have to think about that in the next version.

That's for therother to decide; he compiles the installer. ~;)
hello and thanks every1, specially u,bovi.
I used ur tools, and it deleted some more registry and files related to RTW. I installed RTW again, and "double click" on EB081aFinal.exe file, and it shows the same result, as the screenshot, hehe. Now I have to ask clearly the way of installing by extract by 7-zip. So what do I have to do?
extract FULLY the EB081aFinal file (and overwrite everything) to RTW current forder?
or I have to extract it to seperate EB forder INSIDE the RTW forder?
thx
P.S: Btw I extracted it into a new forder, found that ther is a EB081av2 file w. the description of Window installer package, like in the image (just try to be accurated and providing every of my steps)

The same result when I clicked on the EB installer file, :sweatdrop: .

Yes.

No. Good thing you asked, you probably saved yourself another iteration by that :beam:.

Oh yeah, I forgot about that MSI installer file inside. You do not need it, feel free to delete it or let it be, it doesn't matter.
When you install using 7-zip, keep in mind that the EB shortcut is not made for you, so you'll have to create it yourself. The switches you need are -mod:eb -nm -show_err (I think).

Indeed. Best thing to do would be to creat a shortcut, using right click your background > add new > shortcut method. Browse for your RTW.exe which you would like to run EB on > select it > rename the shortcut thing to EB 0.81aV2 > right click your new shortcut > properties > add -show_err -nm -mod:eb to the target line. (Do not forget to include the hyphens!)
thanks alot, I got it running :laugh4:
Great, enjoy the game :2thumbsup:.
