I've experienced this problem a long time ago when I used to play and when I got back to playing this after a long hiatus it's happening again.
I randomly click a miniature and the game immediately crashes to the desktop. Now, i'm pretty sure I got this resolved the last time I had this happen but for the life of me I can't remember what to do.
Any advice?

Is it happening often? I very rarely have that problem when clicking on a castle or piece. I've noticed that it seems to happen when I'm clicking and moving my mouse rapidly. Hence, I try not to be too speedy on the campaign map. If you discover the cause, please share it. It's still a mystery to me.
An unassociated and consistent crash involves picking up an assassin unit (ninja, geisha) on the same turn that its target has been assassinated by another unit. To avoid this, never pick up a unit that is en route to kill a target that has just been killed. If you do, the game will CTD the instant you drop the piece. Wait until the next turn before retargeting or moving those units.
Never had it, never even heard of it.. I wonder, are you sure it were random figures or could it be that it happened only when selecting ninja's/geisha's? (Like Masa told about)

I honestly can't remember. Next time I play i'll try to figure it out. It might've been a ninja.
Thanks for the help.
I too know of the issue, and like Masamune, experience it once in a while when I click on a castle. In my last few days of Shogun, it only happened once, close to the beginning, but I never found out what the cause is, really. I just try to quicksave every few rounds, to prevent a lot of redoing.
