GAH!
Will MTW run on a PDA, a palm PC or a Windows CE device?
That way, Vanya can play MTW during His long commute to work... while eating popcorn and sipping sake...

Thank you Stuie. Stupid laptop only has 8MB of video card, but I think I will be good. If not...You will probably hear me crying in the UK.
However, I don't know if MTW will need the 728x1024 or whatever it is. My laptop can only get up to 600x800...

Well...Apparently the gods at CA decided that a mere 8MB will not be enough. I was down at the local Electronics Boutique. They have the little bitty boxes with specs on them. Everything else is the same, but we need 16MB video card to run it, with 64+ better.
Time to start crying,

Ye if you want to play the board game
I have Two P4's one with onboard g2
other with some some crap,on g2 battles run
fine, over 10,000 men as they say, the other
come back tommorow and it might be finished
if a graphics card makes so much difference,
what is going to be like on a p2.

The readme recommends at most four players for internet games because otherwise some people may suffer if their machines aren't sufficiently powerful.
But eight players with fast machines *can* play a game over the internet, and usually without any trouble.

Uh Oh. Yari smell that the multiplayer will be dominated by 1x1 on simili-ironbored. The smell is faint but definitely not good... The smell of an old hospice... where old men and very few women wanders the empty corridors...

How fast is "fast" exactly?
As fast as the recommended requirements?

I know what CA tell what minimum/recommended/dreammachine is but what about the requirements for reasonable online play?

If you've got the ideal spec you should be able to handle eight big armies. If you have a less powerful machine then you'll probably lose graphical smoothness, but the troops will still cover the same distance in the same time, and it won't make everyone's game lag.
If in a multiplayer game you find that the troops are moving slowly and jerkily but the camera movement is still smooth, then someone else has a machine which is too slow for the size of game you're playing, or is suffering network problems. If the camera is slow and jerky too, the problem is your machine (or, if you aren't the host, it might be your network connection).
We've played eightway games which felt, speedwise, like they were being played against seven AI opponents with no network involved. That's over a LAN, mind you. We've also played games with modems hosting and playing, which didn't really feel any different from the LAN. In all cases these games have involved machines nearer the 'recommended' spec than the 'ideal' spec. On occasions where the game has lagged, it's turned out to be an explicit problem with a single machine; a duff network card, or sound drivers from history.
But when it comes down to it, we've spent a long time optimising the game and the network code, and if it doesn't run smoothly with the players, armies, and unit sizes that you really want, you'll have to cut down until it does. Or upgrade. If you have min spec, you just aren't going to be able to play the same scale of game as someone with ideal spec. I know that's going to be tough on some of you, and it happens to us too; I spent ages unable to play new games at home because my old P2 300 with GeForce 256 wasn't up to the job, and I had to plan my recent upgrade so it would cover me for games for the next two years or so. Sadly, that's the biz, sweetheart, as Remo Williams used to say.

Dangit GilJay, why couldn't you guys have made it just a little bit less harsh? Only 8 fricking MB. And no way to upgrade...
All the same, have fun everybody!

Hi
just wondering if anyone could enlighten me with regards to using a "3d Prophet 4500 kyro 2 chipset 64mb" graphics card within medieval, as I had troubles in shogun - seemed to affect my mouse's capabilities.
I am hoping this is now fully compatable, but I havent been able to find out so far..
Thanx for your comments.

No worries, Fuh, I'm in the same boat with a tiny 8MB vid card hard-wired into this notebook. I expect some foyer conversations to go like:
Fuh: "ne1 here with a laggy vid card?"
Kuk: "heh...yea me. Wanna play 'Laggy Knights on a hill?"
Fuh: "OK. I have cable. Host?"
Kuk: "Alright. Have dial-up here. Don't hate me."
