Turning off game music is (nearly) always one of the first alterations to Options I make when installing a game.
Almost all games just loop the same stuff.

Notable exceptions include: Shogun:TW, Halo & Star Wars games.

So I play either radio or just Winamp in the background.

I have the game sounds muted, and play music with Media Player. It's far more fun. Not too say I haven't played with the EB music, its really something special, but i prefer my own tastes.

some music I use when i feel like battling with other music are:
The Roots
Linkin Park
Rage Against the Machine
Tupac Shakur
Gangstarr
some of the songs... especially...
I Don't Care (Roots), Points of Authority (Linkin Park), Ballad of a Dead Soulja (2pac), The Uppercut (2pac), Battle (Gangstarr), The Militia (Gangstarr), and Guerilla Radio (Rage)

but normally the game music is good

EDIT:
just realized this is what i listen to sometimes getting pumped, like before I fought with some of my buddies...

randomize with iTunes and global hotkeys is my friend. A quick macro of the next track key on my keyboard to escape a power ballad while my general is being slaughtered to the silver death!

If I'm really angry with a faction and I'm fighting a battle to punish them for their general stupidity, ill put on "Let the Bodies Hit the Floor"...

I prefer some Metal/post-hardcore for my battles, like: Waterdown, Montréal, Die Apokalyptischen Reiter, Raunchy, Emil Bulls, 36 Carzyfists and so on.

I hear the music when I'm checking forums like this :laugh4:

EB music is fine for me too :2thumbsup:

And before EB music, RTW music was also fine of me too :2thumbsup: (I still like it)

I used to have music at like 100% along with sound effects (speech at 80%), but now I have sound effects at 100%, speech at 85%, and finaly music at 75%.

One thing though, I wish I could mod the game so the music switch between EB and RTW music depending on whats going on in game. But I am an illeterate when it comes to codes and PC stuff.

Ahhhh no way Hilary Duff FTW! :laugh4:

Seriously, about half the time I listen to the EB music (I really love it) and then the other half I'm listening to my mp3 or using media player. Depending on my mood I could be listening to the Alexander soundtrack or some My Chemical Romance, Nightwish, Queen or Cheap Trick especially Surrender when I know the ai's men are about to rout :beam:

The EB music is fine, but when fighting battles as the Germanioi, I love to listen to Rammstein.

Yep I can see why that makes sence. I should do that to when I play the Sweboz again.

Is that sound track good??????
I ask because I hated how the director mixed the music with the battle sceenes, just horrible :skull: Maybe by itself the music is better. :idea2:

Oh yeah it really is. I've come to appreciate Vangelis' (the man who came up with the Alexander score) work a lot more after listening to it without having the rattle of battle roaring over it :beam:

didnt anybody else like Alexander? Its basically THE reason i got interested in greek history and why I love macedonia so much.... :laugh4:

the battles they DID show were really good i think, if only he had a larger budget to have done more of them... and maybe a sequel about the diadochi?

Battles were awesome indeed BUT they were TOO short, about 10 to 15 mins a pieace and the movie only showed 2 battles. Thats about 30mins and the movie was over 3 hours Long!

I am sure they had more combat footage.... plus (to me) the movie rushed to Gaugamela (sp), 10-15mins of it. After that it lagged for a while, then the battle in India came, another 10-15mins. And finaly the movie lagged all the way to the end. :skull:

Danzig goes good with sometimes too .

That group was awesome in the sense you knew they weren't coke fiends . Everyone was ripped and not tiny ripped either . There guitarist could have been a BBer with a good roid cycle .

I love the Alexander soundtrack (well, anything Vangelis does is awesome) and I love the movie! It's impossible to compress 30+ years with 12 of them pure adventure with hundreds of battles to a single movie, so it just showed bits and pieces his life. But there's already been a few threads about it, so let's not slide away from the question at hand.

How the hell can you guys listen to the EB music?! I find it waaay too boring, so I slap on Media player and use my keyboard hotkeys to skip through songs until I get to one I like (and that sometimes pumps me up for whatever's happening) Hed PE rock!!

That's not very friendly to the creators of the music, is it? If you don't like the music, that's fine, but please keep your criticism constructive. Senseless bashing won't help improve anything.

Because EB is the ****! And the music is similar to what the people of your faction would have listened to.

I rather enjoy the EB music. I think it's fitting for the mood of the game.

I am no expert, but the EB themes sound like modern rather than ancient music. One of the loading screens specifically says that the team chose for a mood rather than a recreation of Hellenic music since Hellenic music would sound pretty weird to modern people. I imagine the same was done for the other cultures.

I know.... but EB music its more "fitting" than, say, Slayer.

I think Oh Fortuna is definately my favorite for battle music, but after watching the movie gettysburg lastnight I think there is a lot of music from that movie that would be good for marching/battles

Ahh I didn't mean to offend anyone who MADE the Eb music, it's people who listen to it I've got beef with. Just kidding, I didn't mean to offend anyone when I put out my opinion, and Im willing to make anyone I DID offend feel better by offering free hugs. Anyone?

I forgot Ronnie Coleman was a powerlifter at one time . I like the sport and wish it got more attention . I quote my comment about about it being an olympic sport .

"Who gives a damn if the third world can't afford bench , squat and deadlift suits for there athletes for the suited competitions ?"

I can't listen to my own music while playing EB. I once tried listening to the Blood Brothers while playing and I couldn't do it, the music was too distracting.

Well they can always do RAW competitions only in the Olympics, like with Weightlifting.

Admit though it is still cool even with it suited to see a dude heave a 1000 + lbs off there chest .

Another PLing/BBing fan , on the EB board to boot .

Anyway I've been experimenting with some other classical battle pieces . I actually put in battle hyme of the republic and seeing Republican legions marching to battle with that is awesome.

I don't ever switch over to other music, because I like EBs barbarian song line-up well enough, but during a battle, you have to admit that in a custom battle with a full Marian/Imperial legion marching into battle, the Star Wars Darth Vader/Empire theme song (particularly Metallica's version) is immensely fun to play.

I always turn off the music after a little while ( even though I appreciate the efforts of the EB musicians ) and listen to a podcast or a recorded book. Herodotus is available on iTunes, as is Plutarch and Arrian. I've got all of those, also the excellent free podcast 12 Byzantine Emporers, and the new iTunes U has some great podcasts from Stanford, such as 'Where did Hannibal cross the alps?', 'The Historical Jesus' and 'Virgil's Aeneid'.

I have to say that I get tired of the way music is used in movie battle scenes. Even if the music itself is good (and it often is), the emotional cues are usually blatant cliches- y'know, stirring crescendoes, ominous bass lines, triumphant brass. John Williams has a lot to answer for. One of the best uses of music in a battle that I can think of is the attack of the Warg Riders in Lord of the Rings Two Towers. Standard use of music (stirring chords and all) right up to moment that the Wargs and Rohirrim's charges meet. Then, nothing. Absolutely fantastic and extremely effective in making an almost totally computer generated image of a scene of pure fantasy seem viscerally real. I wish more directors would try that in their battle scenes.

Shit, sorry for the rant.
