I've been thinking (which will be of much surprise to my professors). Why is it that attacking across rivers is so difficult? My calvary, great strapping lads as they are, always have difficulty making it to the other side properly, and there is always the last few idiots who get stuck at the bend, and in a remarkable show of skill, gallop backwards to catch up with the rest. They will of course be inevitably caught, and the rest in front will not go off but fret and whir backwards and forwards as if those behind owe them koku.
Dont mind me if I am pedantic, but are bridges always so narrow? How come only Owari has two bridges? I also have a thought to making rivers more interactive. For one thing, the Kensai, skilled BMOC as they are, should be able to run on the railings or the broad hats of enemy ashigaru to get at the Daimyo. I mean, at the very least, give us battle ninja who can swim across that piddling stream.
In summer, where it is always fine days, troops should be able to ford the rivers at some points instead of charging into the meatcutter. Also, when enemy ashigaru attack and are already wavering, the moment I send in my tanned, leather-faced and screaming monks, they should be able to leap off the bridge into the water instead of turning around and shoving like pre-schoolers. When there is a huge mass of bodies, the water under the bridge should foam red.
When an army attacks across a field of corpses they should be slowed, and perhaps have their morale reduced, since all those hooves sticking in the air can give some very nasty cuts.
It would be hilarious if there are gold comedy moments on bridges. just imagine a slow bullock cart with a grandfather and his two young grandchildren crossing the bridge at Mushashi and he looks up to notice a glittering horde of pikemen and suddenly hear about a million pounding hooves behind, and he says "Oh shucks" or whatever Japanese rednecks say. What a great cutscene.
I was thinking about whirpools, ox-bow lakes and random trolls under the bridges, but I am afraid you would laugh at me.
