View Full Version : Integrity by Example

After reading the many threads surrounding the impending release of MTW and the issues that may arise from multiplayer being supported at Gamespy, it would appear that we (as a community) have a significant challenge ahead of us. With multiple Nicknames without a reference point and a loose control of Clans/Orgs etc., we are really presented with only one option. We must, as a community, blanket the multiplayer environment with a strong presence, which exudes actions of integrity and honor. Our actions must dictate an unspoken honor code and thereby setting an example that those new to the community will either want to be part of or at least respect. When I first began playing back in Dec 2000, it was the examples of Gamesmanship and cordial attitude, which I saw on the STW server, by many of those still playing, that compelled me to join a clan, play the game with a sense of honor, help the new people, etc..
Of course this won't compel all, due to human nature, but the majority I feel will want to follow suit and be a part of this thriving community, rather than act in its detriment.

Let's be there, have fun, and lead by example...
It may be our only hope to preserve what we have spent so much time building.
Just my thoughts...

If it is unspoken, then how will they hear it?

A man sees another behead a stranger.

Was it to feed his children some hearty head soup? Or was it to feed his own private perversions?

The action, when seen in the absence of intent, is vulnerable to the fallible interpretations of the beholder.

A man sees another behead a stranger.

The witness may then think its OK to go chop his mother-in-law's head off just to shut her up!

GAH!

But yes... it will be necessary to profess the Bushido to the newbies online.

But, you must also become ducks. Water rolls off the backs of ducks.

So, when you go swimming through a sea of shit, the excrement too should simply roll off your back... like water off a duck's.

GAH!

unspoken - as in how we interact with each other and new people, not saying "we are acting this way because we want to preserve such and such." Stating a purpose can lead to a backlash. Examples lead to admiration.

lol like the bit about the ducks though...

Hmmm, interesting point regarding the duck Vanya....can't say I'm a great admirer of Laissez Faire politics though.Although I have to concede getting into flame wars resolves nothing either...damn that means I don't agree with doing nothing but don't agree with doing something...am I schizophrenic? http://www.totalwar.org/ubb/biggrin.gif Or does the ability to spell schizophrenic disqualify me from schizophrenia http://www.totalwar.org/ubb/smile.gif

I think the removal of the Comp ladder at the moment will help the attitude a lot.

One word about the leagues. I predict that the leagues that are successful will have implacable integrity.
