View Full Version : How much real time does a battle take you ?

I was wondering how much real time fighting battles took you (in the campaign) as custom and multiplayer battles might be a little different.
I mean it counting from deployment until the battle result screen.
For my part, simple field battles are over in about 15 minutes whereas complex battles such as sieges or multiple stackes take me around 1 hour/ 1 hour and a half (playing with timer on)
Hi there ~
I've put under 15 mins.
About 90% of my battles are completed in this time when I outnumber or have better quality troops than the AI. I tend to speed up parts of the battle when awaiting contact with the enemy or chasing routers. I also favour infantry armies so need little manouvering. My more recent battles with Eastern mobile archer armies can take longer.
:charge:
Usually between 30 minutes and an hour for field battles and anything up to two hours for a seige assault.

For me, usually around half an hour for a field battle and an hour or more for a seige.
It largely depends on my forces and the enemy, i'm terrible for going over the battleground inch by inch in full zoom looking for every ridge and depression, to give my troops the edge.
With a siege much of my time is spent moving troops into position for the final assault once the walls are breached and the enemy has fallen back, very rarely in my games do the enemy try to hold the walls after i make a breach, they always seem to pull back to the square. So much of my time is sending forces to flank and split their own defence.

My battles usually take more time these days as I slow down speed to 0.3-0.5
when there's heavy action. Sometimes i think normal speed is just too fast..

Agreed. Also, slowing down to that level is a great way to get up close to the fighting without losing control of the battle.
I'd agree with everyone on 10-15 mins for smaller battles and up to 1 1/2 hrs for larger ones. But those 15 minute battles can be stretched out if there are some interesting melée units involved ~:)

Might sound like a noob question and a bit OT but how do you slow time to such a level... Is there any shortcut ?
I mostly use Ctrl+T to speed things up notably in mopping up routers but never knew I could slow it to see in detail the result of a cav charge...

You can slow the game down up to 0.1x, by holding shift and clicking on a time controls buttons (those + and - icons near the "radar")

Battles rarely last me more than 30 minutes unless one side or the other is entirely composed of high morale horse archers.
I'd say most field battles are 5 minutes or so with the full or multiple stack ones going 15.
I maneuver on 2X, slow down to 1X shortly before contact, smack em' with the infantry, run the cav around the back, chase the routers at 2 or 6X.
The long battles are the ones where I get caught with like 200 men against 800, and I have to repeatedly isolate enemy units, charge the cav, run away, regroup, repeat.
'Bout 10-15 mins for a standard battle, 'bout 20-45 mins for a siege. I rarely speed the time up.

I generally take about 30 minutes for a battle. If it is looking like a one sided battle at any point, I will speed up the game play.

I'm almost always done in 15 m or less; I never use pause and I'm always going to 6x speed to get men into position. No patience.

Usually field battles are less than 15 min sometimes sieges take more especially against 2-3 packs of Mongols. :) I remember the days of first Medieval TotalWar when I had 3 hours and more long battles - the reinforcements were keep coming and coming :).

Thx for answering that poll...:2thumbsup:
I thought I was a slow player considering the inconsiderate use of the Pause button I make but I seem to be in with the majority of players here at the Org.
I feel a bit better...:2thumbsup:
