As I read more posts I become more worried that we in the multiplayer community are being over looked, and will suffer disappointment with Medieval. Dispite EA's flaws it was a server dedicated to just our game, where as gamespy is not, From the things ive being seeing gamespy has taken no more that a casusl intrest in our game, possibily CA as well. Seems we will have access to less stuff than onder the old server, (clans for one).......Who has experience with gamespy? How many hoops must we jump through to use their mulitplay system? Will it deture the people who are less skilled with computters? And most important...is the multiplay experience going to be better? (EA's Failures withstanding). CA sold millions of copies of MI, and there are only 40 or so people on line at a time, so the main market is single player, but I at least will buy it for the multi, to play the likes of kocmoc and maggy, not some computer program. I hope i'll not be disappointed by a cheapened experience.
You're very uninformed. The browser will be built in, there's no hoops you will have to jump through. You really have absolutely NOTHING to worry about. And unlike EAPlay Gamespy will be around forever.
In the recent weeks we had loads of stuff regarding MP said directly by the developers on these forums.
Please read them.

hi lahill,
there are 2 ways to enter the game for multi. one is by going to gamespy itself and wading through their popups and advertising and so, till you find the game and can log into it. the other is by starting the game and picking multi and simply going directly to the mtw game room on gamespy, thus bypassing all the nasties on gamespy itself.
once in the game room area there are no popups, and only one banner ad for gamespy itself (as far as i know). when you start a multi game you are disconnected temporarily from gamespy and connected by direct ip to the game host's machine. upon game end you are returned to the main servers.
the log in procedure is pretty straightforward, particularly if you already have a gamespy account. you simply load the game, pick multi, and create or log in on your account. far easier than it was thru EA's stuff. if you've played any recent games on gamespy thru something like neverwinter's night, you'll know what i mean. very simple.
this shld also mean that apps like 'the all seeing eye' ..might.. work without even logging directly into gamespy, but i wont swear to that till i try it.
all in all it shld be easier than the EA stuff.

That is good to know. Although I never found the EA stuff hard, only annoying because of failures to log on every now and then.
I hope this doesnt happen with MTW and gamespy also.

Gamespy is not too bad. WIth Ghost Recon it was a little laggy at times and the chat lobby is a bit more impersonal than the dedicated lobby of MI/WE, and then there are those annoying popups (but we will be testing out some anti-popup software to see if we can stop that), but overall, I think it will be an improvement over the server probs that EA had with the previous two games. We may have to come up with a way to set up clan matches via a website, or possibly the .org could have a section in the Clan forum for doing such things. If Tera could break the clan forum down into separate sections such as: "Clan news", "Clan recruitment", "Campaigns", etc. I have just received an icq from one of the Ugly's. He has already received his game and is right at this moment, loading it on his harddrive!! http://www.totalwar.org/ubb/smile.gif IT is to come out here in Kentucky, tomorrow afternoon.

All-Seeing-Eye (http://www.udpsoft.com/eye), for all your gaming needs! Not having played STW multiplayer I don't know how well suited it will be to MTW, but it sure beats Gamespy for every FPS out there. http://www.totalwar.org/ubb/wink.gif
If only Gamespy would learn something from it... ie no unnecessary graphics - we're here to play games not to look at a pretty app! - filtering out passworded servers, filtering by location, auto-join feature that can keep checking multiple full servers until a slot opens up, and oh so much more!

AGAIN, If Medal of Honor is any example for how "gagspy" will function with MTW - GAH! It sucks (those of you with super fast connections will be happy to hear that you will have a wonderful unfair advantage over those who don't), ever been in a STW game where your opponents army ran over you while your own barely moved?- yep. Plus, (in MoH) one sits for 2 minutes while the server shows you the 1500 games to choose from (many with 0 ppl). Hopefully, MTW will be a better server than MoH. But, the loss of community and a proper foyer, will probably find many of us missing the "good old days" of comradery that exists in the STW foyer today. The only reason the STW foyer doesn't have hundreds (thousands) of players in it today is because of the piece of crap server (that is down for days at a time and performs worse than Warzone 2100's - how sad). There truely ought to be a law. And EA's answer is gagspy? I suspect a commie conspiracy. These guys were on the grassy knoll. Crap, see y'all in the STW foyer.

It's not EA but Activision...a whole new publisher. Which is why they decided to use Gamespy.
The original STW and MI servers were EA servers.

GAH!
Vanya is an ignorant GameSpy newbie.
GAH!
Vanya entered online foyer today after installing MTW and registering GameSpy nick.
GAH!
Vanya says interface is just like olde Shoggy one, only with different graphics and font...
Vanya has not tried to play a game yet, but thinks that part will be similar too.
GAH!
So, if you liked olde Shoggy, or were at least comfortable with it, you will have no shocks comming your way...
GAH!
