I have always thought that one of the best sections of this site was the "faction guides". We all know how a good start to the early part of the game can set you up for world domination or a bad one gives you a quick trip to extinctsville.

But I note that there is no guide for the Papal States even though I have seen an AAR campaign in the Throne room as his Holy Hatness.

Is it possible to play as the Pope with out a full mod (i.e. just altering the Papal Staes to be playable) or is it a bit like the Senate in RTW and not a good idea to play that faction for reasons of game stability.

Also what happens with Excommuincations and the Inquisitors?

Cheers

Yes, you can just play them without extensive modding. Simply add them to the playables in your strat file.
You'll simply be missing the pope meter and the ability to marry off your pope (and this subordinates I believe). No RTW like crashing.

Thanks for that. I did wonder. :dizzy2:

*note to the moderators*

Could we get a Papal States section in the Factions guides so that those with far more skill than I could at least point me in the right direction for success?

Or even start a thread here that can be stickied later?

Papal guards r the best in papal line up imo. high stats for a unit trained in cities and can be accessed quickly. But the price is too steep during early game, game balance.
