Hey, i have just re-created the roman republic in 70BC on EB. However, i was able to do that by 155BC (in game date) below are the maps of the republic

i am basicly at war with all my neighbours except Arverni & Pontice they are both my allies.

Nice, but in 70 BC, Rome had many client states also. Still not bad.

Also, Carthage was no more, but that is kind of hard to do without conquering all of Africa.

not bad 'tall, nice work. For Carthge I usually destroy them around the appropriate time, and then allow the Numidian and Mauretanian lands to rebel so the map looks right.

i think carthage was finally eliminated by 149 BC. i still have a few years to take their settlements. i've also kept the getai, pontice and arverni in the game by conquering the territories around my empire and then giving it to these factions. otherwise they would have been long gone.

H.H. Scullard's From the Gracchi to Nero -- Carthage and Corinth were both destroyed in 146 B.C. Close.

This date has particular resonance with me, because, in my opinion (and Scullard's) it marks the beginning of the collapse of the Republic. "Can a city state govern an empire?" History says, "no."
