View Full Version : Running tw in BI.exe

I followed all the directions in the scriptorium:

1.I copied BI for a backup file
2.I copied all files under rtw data into the BI
3.I changed the target line under the rtw icon to say "...-BI.exe" -mod"

I started up the game and it seemed to be going fine. I clicked on imperial campaign and it said "please select an item from the list". I remembered reading that you may have to go through the provincial campaign slot to reach it so i did, but got the same "please select an item from the list".

I even tried running just BI with nothing on the end of the target line but i still cannot start up a campaign...the only thing that worked was when i clicked on the prolouge. I thought that maybe i had to "beat the prolouge" as you do when you first play (i think) so i went on for about 15 min listening to victoria with no results...

EDIT:

Using show_err it says something along the lines of:
"...descr_strat..line 29 column 1....expected start date of campaign or battle"

umm, that is not only completely unnecessary, its completely wrong!

I think you might have followed the discussion about making a mod-folder for a BI mod instead of how to run RTW under BI! (for that though you copy all the BI data and folders into a separate mod-folder, still not what you have done anyway)

what running with
"...-BI.exe" -mod
on your target line does is make the BI.exe look in RTW/data instead of BI/data. That does mean though that as you've only messed up BI/data your RTW game should still be working (and playing from that shortcut).

I'm not too sure what you managed to break! Try getting back to a clean original copy. All you need to do to run RTW under BI.exe is have a shortcut that says:
"X:\....\..\Rome - Total War\RomeTW-BI.exe" -mod
note there should not be any quotes after the -mod

Thanks much...i was rushing through it and was reading a mod folder post...skipping through the "unnecessary" parts

Again thanks..had no clue what was going wrong but now i see pretty much everything i did..

EDIT: The Imperial Campaign now works under the BI.exe but i cannot get another provincial campaign map working. I tried the Mundus Magnus map but the game CTD's shortly after i click start with no map.rwm...not sure what to do.

I actually get the same error with BI mods, but not BI itself. The Forth Age mod for BI, and also the Extended Cultures mod for BI... But my vanilla BI runs fine, rtw vanilla runs fine, and all of the mods I have for it. So does anyone know what's going on? I haven't touch any of the files for the BI mods I've downloaded except put them where they go. (well, the place of the error is different from his, but it's an expected start date error.)
