The Shogun

So we seem to be getting some great responses so far from you guys. I would hazard the statement that on the whole most of you are impressed with Medieval: Total War and that (as I'm sure you already know) makes the team very happy, after all their hard work.
As for community issues I am more than happy to help promote any tournaments or competitions you guys may want to organise. We have some really nice short run prints, which we would be happy to donate for prizes. Also if any of you who are making maps etc, we will be happy to post links on the front page of www.totalwar.com (http://www.totalwar.com) . The same goes for any one wanting to run battle archives of your most spectacular battles so people can watch you crush your enemies.
So basically any thing you thing you guys do that you feel the whole community should be aware of, then let me know and (whenever possible) I'll get it on the front page of www.totalwar.com (http://www.totalwar.com)

thanks richie,
it's a bit early for tourneys yet; we're still pouring over things, finding out how things work and looking for things to drive CA nuts with in the patch...phase I.

A good thing would be to make all visitors aware of this site, feel free to make a large image/button to advertise about the org.
its much to early for tourneys
Daimyo RageMonsta, u should know that our Khan has no benefit from such an action. he only lives to herd/hunt his enemies around so people need the game to become an enemy in the first place.
GAH!
[Vanya ponders for a second]
GAH!
Vanya asks the Shogun this:
Can youz provide us with a standalone tool (ie, separate from the game so it doesnt have to be in a patch per se) that will take a saved replay game file and convert it into an MPEG?
That way, Vanya could post MPEGs of his greatest battles on the web (assuming He had a website of His own). He could use this tool to profess to the masses the legendary feats of the infamous Wet Gunny Wedgie Army of Doom!
And what a great marketting tool youz get too! Posting MPEGs of battles allows youz to tantalize newbies with the glory that would await them should they venture down the path of MTW!
GAH!
Vanya thinks its better to just view the MPEG from anywhere than to need to have the game, launch it, open the other bastid's replay file and THEN watch it! GAH! Vanya wants to watch these things from WORK, where He, in His infinite wisdom, has NOT installed the game! http://www.totalwar.org/ubb/tongue.gif
GAH!
Vanya wants to tell The Shogun that He likes MTW very much, and is much pleased with all aspects He as experienced so far.
Vanya, in His infinite wisdom, was not impatient awaiting the game, for He knew it would come (such is the benefit of having no head and being undead -- time becomes irrelevant when you have eternity...)
GAH!
I guess that there is one big problem with your proposal. Which camera view should the MPEG convertor take? Since the battlelog is a record of the actions of the units, there is no camera view. Unless it is fixed at the centre of map always looking north.

Good thinking tootee, somethimes i think that u could be a wolf...
it would be nice thou if it uses the general's facing. what u think?
(although i am sure this converter will never make it)

Maybe more involvement from the Gaffers at Ca when we venture into vast projects such as our campaigns....if I was a creator of such a p.c game and saw how amazing our efforts were during the clans campaigns i would be happy....happy enough to give a little prize...or at least little mention in the rules book under the on-line section about the people such as MOD/Map/Game producers.
and maybe a health warning about some of the veterans here..they are clearly insane...us sane folk Krast,Vanya myself and Elmo suffer each time we make contact with the nutz.

Thanks for the offer 'The Shogun'
Im sure it wont be long before we have loads of maps, battles etc developed for this game (I cant wait to get it to see how close my version of Agincourt is to the one you have created)
Only one week to go until it comes out in the UK.
BTW thanks for putting a link to my web site on the front page, it has been a big help

as tootee points out, there is no one camera view in replays. you can move around anywhere in a replay and see anything you want. i dont know if the mpeg allows for this or not, but if not, then it ..shld.. be possible to patch the replay data so that it also keeps track of YOUR view while you were playing, but that's going to increase the size of an already hefty file.

When using conversion tool, pick camera angle/position. Choose to tie it to a general, or hang it high overhead over the main melee/confrontation.
Or, just default it to your view during the game...
