View Full Version : Kingdoms: General - Kingdoms - cannons bugged?
I noticed that my cannons (in the Kingdoms expansion) often don't work correctly.
Sometimes they load, but the instead of firing, they just stand there without doing anything. Other times they won't even load (right-click an enemy to attack it, then the 'firing' icon appears for a second on the unit card, then disappears again, and nothing happens)
Anyone else having the same problem?
(might just be a general mtw2 bug, but I never used artillery much in vanilla, so I don't know)
I'd guess that's because they couldn't actually hit there target because for example a bump in the ground is in the way.

take a testrun on the grassy plains custom maps, its completelly flat
I once had a similair exp. with musketeers, they showed their firing icon but wouldnt actually fire, was cause there was a mild bump in the battlemap wich only gave my musk. LOS(line of sight) ~1/2way their range ..

Sometimes they will not fire if there is a unit in front of them but I guess you thought of that.:dizzy2:
this behaviour isalso in m2tw 1.2.

notes - as stated kindly by Alpaca and redspot. if there is a bump then musketeers and cannon wont fire.
also i have tested custom battle for my own ETW fetish sake, on vanilla MTW2. initially, when standing still, the units will fire properly. but as casualties mounted on both sides, and the annoying musketeers and handgunners shuffling back and forth, if you are 1mm out, the unit will show as firing but wont do anything.
you can either fix it via patches(if any) or in my case, simply drag and move closer to enemy.
however, it seems that the AI unit has no problem in shooting back despite the casualties (just got slowed when they got hit (and die) by your own fire. odd.
Nope, nothing in the way, I checked that.
I found out what causes it (part of the time) though:
When your cannons are deployed on a hill, their range sometimes isn't displayed correctly. The mousepointer will turn green when you hold it over an enemy unit, long before the unit is actually in range. When you then right-click the enemy unit to attack it, nothing happens (I think the cannons don't fire because the enemy isn't in range yet, and don't move closer to the enemy because according to the mouse point the enemy IS in range).
Not sure what causes it to happen at close distances.
