View Full Version : Kingdoms: General - Unpacker and CTD problems with Kingdoms

Okay, I have done the following:

1) Installed Kingdoms over a clean M2TW install
2) Started the game and played 2 turns of the Britannia campaign as well as a couple of battles to make sure everything worked
3) Tried to "unpack all," but what happens is that the unpacker starts, unpacks about half of the files, then stops, somewhere around 20,000 out of 36,000 files, and when I look in the data folder, none of the files have actually been unpacked

Now, the game keeps encountering an unspecified error everytime I try to go to the battle screen and shuts down. IIRC, this is the same problem that happens if the files are unpacked but the "data\descr_geography_new.txt" and "data\descr_geography_new.db" files are not deleted. But those files have not been unpacked when I look for them.

Anybody have any idea what the problem is?

In the tools folder there should be four bat files to unpack each campaign. You should use these to unpack. Each campaign has its own data folder were the unpacked files will be stored.

If you use the unpack all, you will be unpacking the M2 campaign.

Okay. I just ran the unpacker on the Britannia mod. It appeared to work properly, but then after the extraction was complete, none of the unpacked files appeared in the data folder.

The unpacked files should be in the folder: "X:\Program Files\SEGA\Medieval II Total War\mods\british_isles\data". X: = the hard disk you installed Kingdoms. I have unpacked the Americas packs and all the files are were they should be.

some campaigns have the data\descr_geography_new.txt and data\descr_geography_new.db others do not. i have unpacked all kingdoms campaigns and the britannia campaign did ctd on me after it. i looked in all campaign folders (they are under "mods) and deleted both files if they were present.

Will be easier to hae "Kingdoms Mode folder installer" :) I have problem with unpacking too. Looks OK, but the files are not in the expected folder (which was mentioned above).

Have you found them in a different folder, or are they just not there?

Anybody else offer any assistance on this one?

What is your operating system? XP or Vista? If it is Vista, everything is probably different.

For unpacking use the batch file: unpack name of campaign. After that the files should be in the data folder of the campaign (mods/campaign/data) and not in the data folder of vanilla.

No, I did not found them. Even I have no message for error or somethink. Just work OK and after this - nothing.

I am with W2K Pro! Fully updated. Runs much faster, specialy for TW games :)
PC is good (3Ghz Pentium, 1G RAM, 128M Graphic card).

I'm using Vista. And I did exactly what you described, but the unpacked files are nowhere to be found. They aren't in the mods/campaign/data folder, nor are they in the vanilla data folder.
