Is there the option to do things like trade military units for florins, or accept a province in return for a peace treaty?

I dont think the diplomacy is that developed http://www.totalwar.org/ubb/frown.gif

Thats one thing that dissapointed me about STW, the diplomatic options were simplistic at best, you couldnt impose harsh peace terms on enemies, you couldnt demand terriotory etc...

Shame they couldnt have rectified this for MTW...

Well, you'll find that provinces being as valuable as they are, no one's going to give you a whole province just for a peace treaty anyway.

The ability to demand money in turn for peace would have been interesting... good idea for a patch.

You can buy units outright by hiring mercenaries. Mercenaries come from disbanded or captured units from all over the map, so it's possible to buy camels as the English, or to buy siege engines when none of your provinces have a sige engineer.

I still find the diplomacy somewhat shallow and it doesnt do much for the game, CA dont seem to take it very seriously, you can only be at war, at peace, or allied to other factions, there are no complex treaties, military alliances or trade embargos available (ala Civ 3), i really wish they would pay more attention to the diplomatic side of things in any future additions to the Total War series...

I am sure they would if they had the time and the resources, but they don't.
There is so much they could and would like to add, but it all takes time. The more complex they make the game, the more time taken to get the AI working to a reasonable level.
What would you rather have a good challenging game with limited functionality or loads of functionality but an AI full of holes? How many patches has Civ III had now?

I think they couldve implemented a slightly more substantial diplomatic system with not that much difficulty, even if it only added a few new options i would be happy, theyve endevoured to improve almost every other aspect of the game, so i think it wouldve been viable to improve this one too...

However im impressed with the improved trade system in MTW, well done with that one lads http://www.totalwar.org/ubb/smile.gif

With respect to trade, you can use your fleets to control and influence trade between your faction and other factions, and among other factions themselves. This is an area no one has had extensive experience with, so it remains to be seen how in-depth this area is.

"No military alliances"? I don't follow.

Some things that Id like to see in the expansion along those lines...

The ability to assist an ally in an invasion in exchange for florins.

The ability to attack a seiging army to lift a seige on an ally (not take over their province).

Also the abilities request both of these via emmissaries and to negotiate the monetary compensation payable to said allies.

By this i mean: You are team A, you agree a treaty with team B that means if team C attacks either one of you, you both attack them, i.e. you are both commited to the conflict, alliances in MTW dont actually commit your allies to the conflict if you get into one...

Perhaps this is too complicated to be expected, but the diplomacy does need some work, you have to agree...

Yeah, it's there. Another thing that's in the game is military help from your allies when you engage in conflict with an enemy... this has been in since STW. Maybe that's why i didn't understand what you meant. And really, i still don't. http://www.totalwar.org/ubb/smile.gif

Edit: The circumstances are rather specific, but it happens. Just wait until you get one of those epuc battles where there are 3 or 4 different factions on the battle map.
