In a PR move Ubisoft has released some of their older games, with ads included. The games are Far Cry, Prince of Persia: Sands of Time, Rayman Raving Rabbits, and Ghost Recon. I hear the ads get annoying in Rayman, but are ok in the others. Heres a link to the story on bluesnews, with dl links.

Of these games I only played PoP:SoT. It was entertaining as far as those types of games go, and you've got nothing to lose(aside from time) to give it or the others a try.

Is StarForce on any of the installs? I don't see why they'd need it, since these games are free, but maybe they forgot to take it out.

I'm going for Far Cry. Time to see what everyone was raving about years ago. :sweatdrop:

Ditto, although it only seems like a year or so ago to me.
Ghost Recon is an excellent game for anyone who has not tried it.

Hopefully your system can run it fine. FC was very heavy on my system in the time. If performance doesn't suffer too much, you could try the "cold renderer" somewhere in the graphics options which gives the game a more "realistic" look.
It seems these free games are primarily aimed at USA inhabitants, however. Unfortunate, since I would like to have a quick free look at Ghost Recon.

Far Cry and PoP were two of the most worthwhile games in the last 5 years or so imo.

Nice! Having played PoP, I'll take a look at Far Cry and Ghost recon. Feels like Christmas Eve!

You can lie about your place of residence. That's how I got to play them.

Ah, of course. Somehow it escaped my mind. I will check it out then.

I don't know why I bought two copies of Far Cry now.
I'll consider Prince of Persia. I already got Far Cry for free. ATI put copies of Far Cry into their video cards when it was new in 2004. The PC wholesaler where I worked had a bunch of copies left over (not everyone wanted it). I took one, it was free anyway.
Far Cry was great until the designers decided to make the last act of the game like every other mindless shooter before it. Once the game enters the final stage it gets progressively worse until you reach the last two levels which are so unbearably mindless and forced that the game feels as if it was hijacked by another developer before it was finished!
That final level in the crater is appalling... open doors.. shoot, die, reload! Open doors, run, shoot, die, reload. Open doors, run, run, shoot, die, reload. Etc., etc...
I don't mind feeling like a rat in a maze but when you take away the maze and force me to travel down one long habitrail tube of pain I begin to feel cheated and am usually compelled to whip out the cheat codes...
I've downloaded and installed FarCry and so far it's been a blast. The ads really aren't that bad(one when you first start up the game, then one with every load screen) Considering I got the game for free I'm not going to complain about a 15-20 sec ad every once in a while.
I downloaded FarCry from Fileplanet - taking the best part of a day. Everything seemed fine. I had a big 2+GB zip file. But when I opened it, it seemed empty. No error message, just Winzip showing nothing inside a 2+GB file. Any idea what's going on?
I am not a US resident, so I may be out of luck, but I did not get to the stage of giving details of my ubisoft.com account so I am not sure that's the explanation.

If you didn't put yourself as a US resident then I've heard that it doesn't work for nonUS citizens.
My first download was bad only had one data file in it. So I redownloaded it from another site and everything was fine. What site did you dl it from econ? I think your best bet would be to dl it from another site.
Edit: Actually from what I've seen I don't think it matters if your a US resident or not. It only asks for your username and password at the Ubisoft site.

How far are you?
How far are you?
I only played for an hour last night and beat the first level. I'm at the beginning of the second.

How old is your winzip? I remember years back there was a problem with WinRAR where it couldn't properly see into 2gb+ archives, maybe a similar problem affected winzip. I'd dl the latest WinRAR from www.rarlabs.com and give it a try. If it still seems empty, you could try a repair using WinRAR incase things got corrupted during the download.
But yeah, the US resident stuff only matters for the Ubisoft account or whatever.

Good point. I'm using PowerArchiver. According to one claim thrown up by google, it's supposed to handle 2gb+ files, but in practice can't. Anyway, following your tip, I downloaded the latest Winzip which can handle big files and it sees something in the zip whereas Powerarchiver showed nothing. Extracting now.
Thanks for the help!

I've been playing Prince of Persia: The sands of time, it's pretty fun, wish I could mod it a little, just a little color change on the clothing, oh well, it's still good, though that advertising got to me, I had Mcdonalds today lol.

Ah, it was a holiday weekend thing... Explains why the downloads disappeared...
After finshing MoH:Airborne in what can't have been more than 7 hours and went back to the FarCry that I had downloaded and was refreshing reminded of how much fun the jungle sections where, how much freedom you had to to get to the locations you needed to and how tricky the AI could be... Shame I know how things will go once the Trigens appears...
