View Full Version : All the Europeans complaining:
Have no idea what it is like to wait. So you have to wait what a WEEK or something? Just so the damned game can be shipped over there en masse? Get ahold of yourselves.
The JAPANESE Make the rest of the world wait months and sometimes years before they allow their good games to grace our markets.
Case in point: KINGDOM HEARTS, a final fantasy/disney game which my GF has been waiting for. It was released in Japan early this year, yet is not slated to come out for the US until late october or something. Despite the fact that the game uses AMERICAN voices speaking english and is co-made by a huge American conglomerate.
The FINAL FANTASY series games usually are released many months if not over a year earlier in Japan than the US, and the long delays cannot be attributed to things like translating the game.
I know not many of you probably play many console games, but console games are a huge share of the video game market, and japanese companies dominate many genres in the console market, AND they intentionally hold back releasing their games for long periods for no other reason than to pursue a "Japan first" policy.
So There!

Why was the game released to the closest market first?
why not send the first batch to the furthest distribution point?
the second to the next furthest and so on?
that way they all would have been released within a few days of each other.
When Warlords was released we got it a month or so after the rest of the word already had it. (Oz)
Incidently the policy of releasing to closest markets and making places like Asia wait weeks, sometimes months only leads to an increase in piracy. Simple fact of Life.
Similarly the Japanese policy of making the rest of the World wait also leads to increased demand for pirated copies...
(if it's been released in Japan you can buy it in Singapore, within a few days, from street vendors, for a fraction of the retail price)
Software companies want to stamp out piracy?
Make the games simultaneous release, that way no-one feels 'put out' or treated like second class. (it's not THAT hard to do)
Have the games undergo Thorough RealTime RealWorld beta testing to eliminate or minimise the bugs.
Reduce the cost.
Here a game costs 35% of the average weekly take home pay.
an XBox cost more than a weeks wages!
(i didn't buy one)
I personally know people who refuse to buy a game on first release for 3 reasons,
1.Cost
2.Bugs
3.Late Distribution.
Instead they playtest Pirate versions, if the game is good they watch the bug lists, if everything gets fixed with the first couple of patches they buy the game.
(ME? I wait for barocca and his brothers to approve a game before i spend one single dime!)

The only absolute is that there are no absolutes.
No I don`t think it is right...Japan never recieves PC games early at all!! Well sorry to my mates in Europe but the game is being released here in Japan tommorrow the 25th.
I think the boat must have crossed the pacific from the US to Japan, on to the rest of Asia, to Australia, then it must go on up to Europe. God only hopes it makes it around the Cape of Good Hope!

The future of games distribution is to have them all downloaded whereveer you are in the world. Costs will come down as a result. Manuals etc.. will be sent seperatly if you pay extra or you can stick with e-copies.
Some software is already available like this.
Will it solve piracy.. no way!!
The reason it gets shipped to US first is they are the biggest single market, and if they delayed release(probably a month or more) until they had enough copies to ship worldwide, then another games company would be taking their sales.
So for now we have to accept the econmics of the industy and live with it. Most people posting and 'complaining' about this issue are just kidding around while they wait for the game. It's all part of the release party!

What you must understand with Japan is that their games are not in English, they are in Japanese so incidently most of us couldn't understand a word of it, it takes time for these to be translated and of coarse they then have to be changed from NSTC to PAL and etc because they make Console games mainly.
Now what us Europeans are so bothered about is that a week is still quite a long wait and we have to put up with a week of all the Americans/Canadians talking about what they are doing in the game, we can't stop them as they cna if they want but it's just annoying to see everywhere that we go Americans talking about their trade routes in the Med. etc, it is starting to spoil the game for us that's all, plus theirs people asking for cheats already and that's kinda insulting to us who haven't even got the game yet.

BigHairyDeal - bane of those who have the game, while the rest of the world has to wait...
My POINT was that all this America-hating BS has to stop. The US is getting the game slightly faster than everyone else because of logistical reasons. I posted how the Japanese purposefully withhold their most popular PLAYSTATION titles because of a "japan first" policy in order to contrast it with Activision.
Unlike Japanese companies like squaresoft, activision shipped out MTW as soon as it was done, it just takes time to transport the sheer bulk through the distribution chains until it finally gets to the retailers.
But noooo, you bastards have to insult our president and claim we are being jerks because we choose to enjoy the game and talk about it on these boards.
In fairness, most people havent done this, only a few.
If the US was purposefully delaying shipment to other countries for selfish reasons everyone would have a point and I would agree with you, but that isn't what is happening, so get ahold of yourselves and stop it with all the america-hating crap.

No, what he was saying is that Japan has most console games over a year before anywhere else in the world, so it's not like Europe is the only place that gets stuff late - even the USA gets stuff very late sometimes.

#1 The translation excuse doesnt cut it. American games are released with translations already done, and Japanese games could easily be too. On top of that, translating a game could be done in a few weeks tops even if theres alot of dialogue. Most big PS2 games I know of get delayed by 6 months to over a year.
#2 The PS2 does not have to make Japanese and American versions incompatible, they choose to do so in order to stop Americans from buying up import games.
#3 Noone forces you to come read these boards if doing so is upsetting for you. I am an American and I haven't bought the game yet. I come to these boards because I WANT to learn all I can about the game before I decide to buy it.

But Kalt, no-one is forcing you to read these boards either if theyre upsetting you...
Its natural that we should get a bit annoyed over the fact that some people are talking about how great the game is and how their campaigns are going when we dont have the game, you have to understand that this isnt because we all harbour a hatred of your country, but because we all really really want the damn game :P

Well Kalt I don't have to read the boards no but I'm not going to avoid any site with the words Medieval on it just to escape spoilers. I just don't think it's very fair on the majority of people who don't have it yet that the Americans are just sat here discussing it right infront of us, and I doubt that people are going to avoid the board just because of it, and now there's very rarely a post that doesn't say how do I or are there any cheats.
And games like Final Fantasy take alot more work to redo in another language, like FF10, it used voiceovers instead of the bow with writing so they'd have to record that ALL over again and so on, and unless your in the game industry yourself you can't give an accurate estimation of how long a translation would take.
