Well, Ice hit the nail on the head about every true red-blooded American male's Any Given Saturday being college football... now it's Sunday's turn.
We head into this season with many exciting issues that are sure to be resolved throughout the course of seventeen weeks, plus playoffs:
- We'll start with the NFC, since that's my conference of choice. Can any team break their Super Bowl drought? My money's on the Saints, as is everyone else's in the country. Their offense is just too awesome, and I'm sure we'll get a nice dose of it in tonight's game.
- Can Rex Grossman finally mature and quiet his critics, leading Da Bears back to the playoffs with hopefully a victory? Or will Favre have one more great year and lead his Packers to the Dance one last time?
- The East seems to be really weak this year, aside from of course Dallas. Can Philly challenge them for the division title? Will Romo get over that laughable blunder in last year's playoffs and put up Pro Bowl numbers? Will the Giants be able to replace Tiki Barber? Will the Redskins ever not stink?
- I think San Francisco is my sleeper team in the West. The Rams are getting older (aside from Stephen Jackson) and the Niners have improved. Of course, the Seahawks are always in the way...
Turning now to the AFC:
- Will anyone be able to stop the Patriots this year? I mean, seriously, this team is now freaky. The only thing that can probably take 'em down is if Randy Moss destroys team chemistry, and I can't see that as long as Belichek and Brady are around.
- The North, like its counterpart, is a mess, full of borderline teams. Cleveland has a few years to go, the Bengals have no defense, the Ravens are getting older, and the Steelers are trying to get it together after last year. Who will rise to take the crown?
- The Colts have ruled the South with an iron fist for years. The main question for them is whether they'll be able to beat New England in the playoffs again and repeat their Super Bowl performance of last year. But are Vince Young's Titans ready to step up and take the division away from Manning & co? Will the Jaguars regret pulling Leftwich?
- In the West, how will the Chargers, seeking vengeance after last year, do? The division is weak with the Chiefs retooling and the Broncos not quite there yet. But on the other hand, their coach is Norv Turner now. Forget about Martyball.
I'm sure we will all be watching this season with interest.
I agree with just about everything you said, especially the call on the 49ers as a sleeper pick.
I hate to say it, being a new yorker my whole life, but the patriots look ridiculous this year. They almost had it last year, and now this year the only word to describe their team is star-studded.

Steelers will win!
Probably not, but I love my team!
I of course picked Dallas aside from that lose to the Texans they've looked pretty good. Oakland looks alright from what I've seen. The only reason I add them is because my uncle is a big Oakland fan.

SEAHAWKS RAAAAWWWW!!!!
The seahawks made it far even without Hasselback and Sean Alexander, and with many on our offensive and defensive line injured. Now every single player is healthy and ready, The NFC title is ours.
The patriots are totally overated,

New England is freaky? Pardon me, but last I checked, they didn't play the games on paper. Any true football fan knows that the sport is not overly predictable. For example, nobody picked my beloved Colts to win the Super Bowl last year, yet they pulled it off. Yes, they lost a lot of guys, but nearly all of them are fairly easily replacable. Even Tarik Glenn, the left tackle, who everyone on ESPN likes to say was the crushing loss, despite the fact that they were the same people who never gave him his due as an elite LT. Howard Mudd, the offensive line coach, is an utter genius, as is Tom Moore, the offensive coordinator. If you notice, our offensive line, for the last 7 or so years, has consisted mostly of late round draft choices and undrafted free agents, with Glenn being the only exception. Those two men should never be underestimated. Defensively, we lost Jason David and Nick Harper at corner. However, we have ample depth at the position with Tim Jennings, Marlon Jackson, and Kelvin Hayden. Freddy Keaho played superb when he started against New England last year, and should be more than able to replace Cato June at weakside 'backer. The only position that worries me is D-tackle, where we're starting a undrafted rookie from Penn State at one position. And of course, the offense will be superb. So of course I will go with the boys in blue as my favorite to win it all.

Pats are going on a massacre this year. They're going to be insane. I can't wait to sit back and watch 'em rack up the victories. When they can afford to CUT a guy like Reche Caldwell, and when a guy like Donte Stallworth is their #2 receiver, you gotta love their odds. They shored up their defense in the draft and in free agency... I think they might break Miami's record this year. :beam:

Hmmm.
NO's Saints are being stalled big time by the Colts.
Losing 33-10 right now, the saints haven't scored in 2+ quarters. Not so much of an offense.
Me, I'm rooting for the packers.
CR
Well I know my Vikings aren't going anywhere this year. In fact, I'm hoping against hope that we go 0-16 so that Brad Childress will finally get his dumb butt fired -- I still can't believe Wilf was retarded enough to hire him in the first place. :furious3:
With that said, I'm hoping the Bears take the championship this season. I think Lovie Smith deserves a Super Bowl ring. :2thumbsup: Otherwise, wouldn't mind seeing the Colts repeat. I've always had a soft spot for Tony Dungy, going back to when he was the Vikings' defensive coordinator.

What? But he's made so many great decision! Like putting Chad Greenway on the suicide squad in in the preseason last year...:laugh4: Yeah, Childress needs to be gone. Also, not sure how far they can get with Tarvaris Jackson at QB either.
In other news, the Colts utterly destroyed the Saints in the opening game, opening up a complete and total can off whoop-@#$! on them. I was pleasantly surprised with our D-tackle play.
The Colts do look very good.

I hope its not the past superbowl thats making you say this, after the patriots its been a free for all for any good team, packers and patriots also seem to be the favorite.
Also MIA gets better (slightly, or even more so) every year, but they'll still have to get through heavy hitters to get to the bowl.
EDIT: hope im not coming off like a jerk

From the looks of the game last night I say this. I haven't seen the pats play, but I'm sure they'll be a top player this year along with a couple other teams. I'm rooting for Dallas though because that's the team I've liked since I was a kid. Packers also.

Burress is inconsistent, Toomer's aging and was hurt for most of last year. Granted, Shockey's a pretty good TE, but when your opponent basically has no run game, you should be able to tee off on the QB.
Were you even watching the game I wonder? Ward had some good runs even without their starter they still had a good RB. Manning left the game in the last couple of minutes of the game "bruised shoulder" is what they said but I bet it's more serious than that.

Houston's victory wasn't that surprising. The Chiefs aren't as good as they used to be and Schaub is a decent QB. Andre Johnson is a good receiver and Ahman Green is still a good option at RB.

Best wishes to Kevin Everett and his family. It's a glorious game, but sometimes the price is very high.
Last year I was embarassed to be a Raider fan. If they don't embarass me this year, it'll be a good year. I like the Chargers in the SB, even though they run a shoddy organization the talent on the team is enough to overcome it IMHO.
Re: Miami. If you're averaging more than one starter at QB per year, and a new coach every two years, you're a long way from success. Believe me, I know, I'm in the Raider nation. :wall:

I have the same opinion as you, although I was proud of our defense for playing the way they did last year like every game was winnable, and I see much improvement for the Raiders in the future and this season. BTW, were you at the game last sunday? The fans booed McCown despite his best attempts to help us win, imho, the backfields coverage scheme is what really hurt us, 3 TD's were scored all too easily on them and not to mention how easy it was to pass on them throughout the entire game. I hope that that does not persist throughout the season and that we(as fans) will give the players our support instead of booing an offense that did its best who was, in the end, let down by the defense somewhat.

Unfortunately I don't live out west, so I never get to make the live games. My biggest beef with the Raiders has been draft choices the last few years, we've passed on some guys that are starting for other teams. It's especially galling that Jay Cutler and his arm are in Denver, even if Huff is now starting for us.
Anyway, the D was for real last year, but a prehistoric coaching staff and the usual Raider crew of misfits on O held us back. Now we've got the Kindergarten Krew for coaches, and they tried to shake up the coverages for our D. It didn't work.
I do see some hope though. McCown was gung-ho, the receviers looked fast if not disciplined, and Jordan made the most of his chances. Even the offensive line was mostly consistent, which was a huge part of the problem last year. If they can sort out the scheme for a talented D and get one more good year out of Sapp... well, at least we won't be at the bottom of the division this year with the way the Chiefs are playing. Russel isn't ready, but he's going to have to start the last five or six games and he'll lose most of them, but I'm pulling for an 8-8 or 7-9 season.
Doesn't sound like much, but it's a 'rebuilding year.'

Denver can have Jay Cutler. The Offense does have some lethality to it this year which, when looking at all of those close games last year, makes it look like we can have a some-what strong finish this year. I personally think we can take just about everybody in the division if we play it right and make the right offensive and defensive calls during the crucial moments of the game. And of course discipline is a must so we don't screw up with stupid fouls that consistently hurt us. I think Sapp was better when he was a bit bigger as he could use his weight to push through guys, but he's faster and now able to chase down the quarterbacks which is a nice change. And now that Moss is gone, I do wish that Porter, along with Curry, gets more catches and yards as he finally has enough room to make a name for himself.
And I don't know why they tinkered with the coverage? They shouldda kept it the way it was last year and maybe a few changes here and there but not the amount of change that showed in the game.
Seabass is off to a horrible start while the rest of the Special Teams seems to be improving, tackling and coverage wise, and Lechler is well...Lechler, not much to say there.

And....:inquisitive: Is that it?
I finally find another Raider fan and try and have a conversation and you go and flame? Common man, you don't see me smashing on your team(s), and nobody sucks in this league. We had a horrible Offense and a fantastic defense last year, and this year it looks like that we finally have an offense and now the coverage scheme that worked last year isn't up to par. It's always one or the other and no team seems to be wholly pathetic or just plain out suck. So please, spare me.
Roadkill I think you should choose your wording better. No team flat out sucks, some teams have stregths and weakeness. Saying someone else's team sucks just shows that you need to think more before you post.

They have a decent defense and look promising on offense. I believe that the politically correct term is "in an extended rebuilding phase."

 I guess. The Lions won their last game I believe.
I'm allowed to say my own team sucks right? Because the Lions do until proven otherwise.
I didn't think so. Your offense seems to put up a decent amount of numbers but your D couldn't hold, and now after watching them against us first hand, I'd say the coverage looks really good and I've always thought that if your D got there shtick together, they could be a decent team(it's gotta be all of those Thanksgiving Games tho~;) )
Sorry guys, I've been taught since I was young that the Lions will always disappoint. "Nah, don't get your hopes up kid - they'll start losing sometime...been that way since Barry left."
It's what I get for growing up in MI - and now that the Wolverines are losing as well, I suppose I'll just have to hope that the Tigers get their act together.
Or keep wishing that they'd televise more soccer, which I enjoy more than either sport.

Re: Cutler, I'll be honest with ya, I prefer him to Russel. He's got a good arm (Not as strong as Russel, mind, but good) and he ran a disciplined offense in college with an emphasis on smart, controlled passing. Jamarcus Russel has a load more native talent... but we can see where that got Vick. No rings, and no more career. Guys that get picked #1 overall are trouble at least as often as they pay off, IMHO.
Re: Sucking, well, the NFL is extremely competitive. I think if we'd had a modern day coaching staff last year our team would've gone 8-8 easily. Denver is not as talented as the pundits think (Although, I hate to admit it, they have one of the top 5 coaching staffs in the league), and KC has made a lot of personnel mistakes (Starting with their choice for head coach) in the past few years that have them well below the Raiders on the talent scale. Our guys just need good leadership. If Kiffen's Krew can provide that this year, we'll be all right, and next year? Look out San Diego.
As far as the Lions, they've got the worst front office and ownership in the sport right now, but all those draft picks haven't been busts. The team has plenty of talent, just no continuity and no leadership, a little bit like the Raiders. On 'any given Sunday,' any team can truly win. It hasn't been that long since Cincy was a laughing stock, and now they're a regular pick to go to the playoffs. I love the game more than I love any one team.
One of the core reasons why I'm a Raiders fan is because every great game, every great sport needs an antagonist, a team that riles the blood of their every opponent. Nobody in the NFL symbolizes that better than the Raiders and Al Davis. Through the years more of our opponent's washed up, has been, nobodies have come to Oakland (Or LA :p) and kicked the rears of the teams that let them go than any other team. That's history. That's a story, a background, an essential character that most franchises simply lack.
That's why I'm a Raiders fan, and if this year goes down the tubes, I'll still be a Raiders fan. Just win baby, and someday we will.

Hey, I tried playing it without the pads and I ended up with a mild ACL tear, a partially dislocated shoulder and a cracked rib, I knew I needed the pads but you can't buy them in the south island, not until we a league down here anyway.

Pfft more like 9 points mate:smash:. Carr is only good for kick returns and a new guy took the punts but both are hella good at both. And Denver better WATCH OUT cuz we are gonna be :hmg: for ya:sneaky:

I'll really be impressed if they beat Indy next week.
(Man, what was I saying about the Saints being the team to beat in the NFC?)
Maaaan we got robbed. There should have been no way for the ref blow the whistle for Denver's time out after the ball was practically in the up rights:wall:. That's just BS, and Janikowski really did his best to put that ball up there the second time and I give that credit for really trying and I hope he isn't too hard on himself. McCown threw 3 INTs and overthrew a WIDE open Jerry Porter that even high school quarterbacks can hit. I don't know how he missed him, but that was very bad(I can see Duante starting next game). The D couldn't tackle and that hurt us the entire game all the way to Elam's kick. Lamont Jordan is what kept that offense rolling while the D made 2 big plays to give us the chance to win(which I believe was/is rightfully ours) but sadly it didn't happen~:(

Yeah, the Raiders got robbed again, but it goes right back to what I was saying: Shanahan and his staff are one of the best in football. They won a game with that trick last year too. If you're going to play the Broncos you've got to know that crap is coming, and an experienced coaching staff would've prepped their players for it. IMHO we won the defensive struggle, we won on special teams, we won the running back comparison, receivers were about even, we only lost at QB. I really wish we had Cutler, and the Broncos were still trying to make Plummer a star, but maybe that's just my year ago draft day hangover still talking.
Anyway, you know what, it was a good game. Best game the Raiders have played in a year. They showed that they've got potential.
Everybody in Atlanta (My 'home market' unfortunately) has known Matt Schaub was the real deal for a few years now, and it's nice to see one of the Falcon's QBs playing so well... too bad it's in Houston. :furious3:
I actually am happy to see Farve making another run. It's fun to watch one of the old school QBs who isn't afraid to throw a wild bomb a couple of times a game.
Chargers have a long hill to climb to make my prediction come true.

McCown seems to choke during the most important parts of the game and I think Daunte's experience would've really helped us out here.

I bet you the last time many of those guys lost that bad was in college lol. It is nice to point out that Not only us, but the Chargers, and the Chiefs lost. O yea, and the Chiefs are 0-2 and I think we've put more points on the board than they have, so what's to lose:knight:

Even Norv Turner cant screw that team up, SD is loaded man they had an off night granted, and they ran into a pissed off patriots team.
My first pats game was in 1977 Ive seen a lot of teams come and go in foxboro, but this one is a potential offensive juggernaut, perhaps the most underratted O-line in the league.
I know this sounds like fan bluster but they throttled SD last night with the exception of the 1st drive of the 3rd quarter (SD looked good on that drive) it was all patriots.

I don't know about Norv, he botched our team.
And I don't think the O-line is underrated at all. Brady had all sorts of time during that game, and the Chargers never looked lethal at all until they realized(at the end of the 4th quarter) that they need to get their rears in gear to get some points up. LT got nowhere for a second time, and it's beginning to look like most of the good teams have his number.

Well as I saw it, they were attempting to run to establish play action and the patriots (and probably the league) are wise to that now. Norv stuck with it too long, sometimes you have to pass to open up the run, and a couple of quick curls or slants and screens would have been perfect for SD.
As I see it, LT has to get touches but they dont have to be hard runs get him in the flat, or even set up as a wide out for a few WR screens. That will certainly open up the middle of the field for Gates, but you know it wouldnt hurt of they had a playmaker at WR either and maybe thats hurting them.
Its easy to stack the line, jam gates and let the secondary go 1on1 vs the recievers. I was surprised at the size they have at WR (considering gates is used as a TE And WR).

Actually us English have quite a clear picture of the NFL - it is a game where only 11 people can play at one time, but you have a team of about 45 people. The game is similar to rugby but you stop every 30 seconds to get your breath back - probably caused by wearing all that padding, helemts, armour etc. And, despite this large number of people, all that resting and all that protection, most teams only play 16 competitive games a year. Now proper football players (soccer for you guys) and rugby players play the whole game, don't wear a suit of armour and play up to 70 competitive games a year. Hopefully that insight has helped you!!!
Seriously - I do enjoy NFL - it is a struggle to see it on mainstream TV - usually only the Superbowl - so mostly I follow it on the net. For the last 5 years or so I have run several fantasy sides on Yahoo - 4 this year - and I do enjoy showing you guys how us English can do at that!!!

I have high hopes for this year with Hasselback and Alexander back to full fitness and some good signings.
The season in general seems a bit strange so far - people like Travis Henry, Lamont Jordan running all over people while LT,LJ and SJax really struggling. Throw in a couple of games with over 80 points scored and there is some strange things going on. Perhaps things will settle down after a few more games.

And not only get Childress fired, but perhaps you guys could pick up Brian Brohm in the draft next year so you can get a REAL QB.
....Not to mention a decent receiver or two as well. (I still can't believe we ever picked up Williamson.) :furious3: Wade and Rice show potential, but it's just that for now -- potential.
Right now, Adrian Peterson is the only real bright spot on the offensive side of the ball. The receivers are still mostly lackluster no-namers, the tight ends are under-utilized (particularly Kleinsasser -- remember when he used to actually be an impact player?), and Tarvaris is clearly in over his head. He seems like a good enough kid, but it's obvious he's just not ready for primetime.
Oh, and let's not forget the team's biggest weakness: A knuckle-headed coach who for all his vaunted offensive "genius", can't score more than one touchdown per game. :wall:

Ah, how short the memory is of an Eggy fan...Certainly, is this not the same man who took you to three straight NFC championchip games and has made the Eagles a perennial contender in a division which was for so many years dominated by the 'Skins and 'Boys? Certainly, I do not see how you can be angry at the man, considering the sorry shape the Eagles were in when he took over.

The city has been without a major championship for almost 24 years now. We were recently ranked #2 as "America's most tortured sports city" (behind Cleveland, which I can understand). The resurgance of the Eagles was seven years ago. We want wins now.
So Reid turned the Birds around and made them good. Okay, fine. Good for him, he built up capital. But he lost that capital starting with Super Bowl XXXIX and it's been going ever since. He can't put together a team that can win it all; that much is clear. So he's got to go.

Owens sapped the life out of the that team, its one of the biggest mistakes Philly ever made. You also lost Stallworth, and McNabb is getting hurt. The current Eagles team looks to me like it peaked 2 years ago, but hey if the redskins are in first place have no fear your not out of it.

In a heartbeat! It would be virtually impossible for Reid to do worse than his would-be protege, and at least then the Vikings might actually be fun to watch.
I think that's the biggest problem Vikings fans have with Childress. It's not just that the team sucks offensively; it's that they're also boring. For over the last year now, we've had one of the dullest and least imaginative offensive schemes in the NFL....and it shows. It's obvious to just about everyone in Minnesota that Brad had nothing to do with the Eagles' offensive success -- if the Vikings had McNabb and Owens instead of the Eagles, we would still have the most boring offense in football, thanks to Childress.

These jump out at me, particularly the redskins v giants, the giants just dont look like a good team. i know this is a classic NFC matchup but the redskins are 3.5 favorites at home, so it appears even vegas thinks it might be a push (I always consider a 3 point uptick for the hometeam).

I subscribe to TMQ's theory of predicting NFL games, which, IIRC, goes something like 'Best record wins, unless tied, then home team wins.' Not very satisfying in the short term, but generally accurate over the long term.
Anyway, go Raiders. If they can hang 40+ on the Browns I guarantee they'll win.

Kukri, you picked Green Bay to beat San Diego? That's a long shot but I hope you are right. I thought that letting go of Ahman Green would really hurt Green Bay but Brandon Jackson and Wynn are a lot better than I thought. Green Bay has the most underated D in the league and all they need is a pair of competent safeties and they'll be one of the top 5 Ds in the league.

Yeah, SD is still running a 5-point fav over Favre & Co. Earlier in the week, it looked like bad weather might reduce that advantage, more in favor of the Home team... but now it looks like 75 degrees and sunshine for Sunday. I'm gonna have to re-think that one, check DL's, etc.

Me too (the 3 for hometeam thingee). Lions are my other longshot/upset bet. Vegas has Philly down to 5.5 fav's this a.m. I look for McNabb to either be brilliant (meaning I & the Lions lose), or fall flat on his face and start searching the want-ads. IMO he has a great arm, but his field-general skills lack; so if he fails to deliver in the first half, his team mates will desert the cause, and just go through the motions. Detroit can capitalize on that.

Well if the line dropped then the money is following your line of thinking. Kitna was a solid pick up for them and detriot does have playmakers at WR. I was half kidding on my first remark, detriot might hang tough in a lot of games if Kitna stays on his feet and not on his back.
Mcnabb, believe it or not looks old... He is at that age (given his injuries) that he is going to need a solid running game to take the pressure off him. Loosing Stallworth to my pats, and owens over the last few years dosent help him either.
The HB westbrook is a fine player though, he always seems to fly under the radar in discussion, but his numbers are usually solid. I still like philly, but as I said the money in vegas is following your line of thinking, nice pick.

Vegas has the Jets 3-point favorites (for being the hometeam), so according to their "line" the game could go either way.
Seattle is listed +3.125 ahead of Cinn-city, indicating that the Seahawks should (statistically) squeak by.
In both both games (IMO) victory will hinge on who's defense can exploit any mistakes made by the opposing offense.

Dallas is looking good, but I'm still worried about their defense. If they face a decent passing team (not QB'ed by Rex ~ ), Romo is going to have to put up 45 points. When they play the Pats in week 6, we'll know just how good they are.

Kiffin learned from Shannahan. Already he shows more promise than any Raiders coach since Chucky. Nice to see that FG trick swing our way for once too.

I agree that they should stick with Lane for a while. They ain't going anywhere this year but they'll have a solid foundation in place and Russell ready to go as QB next year and they could possibly make a playoff run then.

To be honest Ramses, we might be able to pull out 4 wins realistically speaking and 6 wishfully because have you looked at our schedule? The Bears, Texans, Green Bay, the COLTS, and Jaguars! It is definitely not a picnic. But with the way the div is looking atm, we might be able to pull off and upset and take 1st or second as everybody just does not look very strong and the whole div is up in the air now that we and the Chiefs won and the Broncos and Chargers both lost.
Calm down, man. You beat the Browns.

Imho, I'd agree with you about Lane(I'm looking at 3 yrs at the most with him), I have confidence and we are a definite step up from the past 4 yrs or so offensive wise, but defensively, our coverage scheme seems to have changed from last year as well as fewer and fewer blitz's on the QB. That is what needs to change. And we are still literally, riding on the shoulders of LaMont Jordan who saved our butts several times that game:sweatdrop:. He's been my MVP since week 1 to now.
Sadly the crowd shows no respect towards McCown who had 3 successful scoring drives(tho we only got 1 TD out of a possible 3 from the 1 yard line), but hey, he did well and doesn't deserve the boo's and jeers that he got in both home games. It shows no class or Excellence that are supposed hallmarks of our organization. It's disgusting.

Calm down? Seriously? It's a win, in a close game no less, and the rest of the division looks pretty weak right now. I'm not saying this is our year, but it can be a proving ground for a good team next year. I stick by my opinion, the Broncos and Chiefs are lower on the talent curve than our team, and the Charger's coach and front office is hurting them more than I expected. No, we probably don't have 8 wins on the schedule, but hope springs eternal. If we can play the Broncos, our nemesis, tough and then man up for a scrappy win (Even over the lowly Browns) then we've already had a better year than the last two.
I admit, I'm seeing things through rose tinted glasses for my team, but isn't that what it means to be a fan?
And how bad did the Saints look last night? Brees is rattled by the failures of his offensive line and he's making some really questionable decisions with the ball. The Titans bullied them last night, throwing them around at will. It was like a schoolyard game by the time the fourth quarter rolled around; the Saints looked scared to hit anybody, and the Titans buried them.

But as for the Miami-Raiders game, it's amazing that our (the Raiders) haven't been picked apart by the Miami passing game as we give the recievers too much room. And so far no blitzing, which should happen at least once per set of downs:wall:.

Ever since Irvin retired, I never bothered with the cowboys anymore...although if it wasn't for Jerry Jones;Irvin might not have been...no, no need to do hypothetical seasons. I was never a Cowboys fan b/c my dad is a Houstonian and the only team he knew about was the OILERS. He could barely speak English but he could tell you all the starters in the Oilers roster lineup. Even if the Oilers were bound to lose, he would still bet fifty bucks that they would win. Roughnecks are real Texas football not those prissy cowboys. Earl Campbell can barely walk at age 52...now that's real football. Wonder what his current condition would be if continued to play 3-4 seasons. The Texans however is a disappointment, can't they move to Tennessee and the Titans move back home. I'd rather Vince Young than some Matt Schaub.

That was another great Monday night game. Crazy calls all around. Tony Kornheiser kept spewing 'What does Buffalo have to do to win this game?' I wanted to smack him and say 'SCORE ON OFFENSE.' If the Bills had a single offensive touchdown, or even a couple of decent time wasting drives, they would've put the game away.
The timeout before the field goal thing will be reviewed and disallowed in this off season. Bet money on it, but for now it's just good coaching to take advantage of any inch the league will give you.
Just to needle the Cowboy fans (After saying congrats, of course) note that TO quit on this team when they needed him most again! Fair weather recievers only show up when the opponent rolls over. Big ups to Romo though, who gave one of the best post game interviews ever after a gutsy (And yet awful) performance.
:egypt:
Exciting game, but the Cowboys did everything possible to blow it (just like the Packers did). Buffalo's offense is pathetic, otherwise there is no chance Dallas would have been able to recover from all those mistakes. I wasn't too happy about him being signed. I'm glad he's doing well for now, but I do foresee a train wreck if things go south. Dallas will go far this year, but I don't think they can win it all, which is fine by me. The thought of TO getting a ring makes me want to throw up...

True enough. It's not so much that the Cowboys deserved to win -- indeed, I was eagerly looking foward to them being flattened -- so much as that the Bills deserved to lose. For as many times as Dallas turned the ball over, Buffalo should have rolled right over them last night. Instead, their offense (which reminded me of my Vikings) sputtered and stagnated the entire night, thus giving the Cowboys the chance they needed to come back and win it in the end.
(and yes, TO did quit as usual in a tough game. Thank you, Jason Witten. )
When did he quit? I saw the whole game and didn't see anything like that.
When did he quit? I saw the whole game and didn't see anything like that.
TO is famous for disappearing, dropping balls, or having alligator arms when things get tough. Been happening since his days in San Fran. He had a couple of drops and had the ball stripped in the end-zone on the 2-point conversion. Could have been worse, I guess he didn't go into complete meltdown mode since Buffalo couldn't put the game away. The box score says it all though, 29 pass completions, but TO was 2-for-25.
He can put up great numbers, but in a tight spot cannot be trusted to come through.

After the first quarter he didn't catch a single ball though he was thrown to (IIRC) 12 more times. On the final drive he had a chance to put them in FG range with 13 seconds left and dropped a ball that he should have caught. On the 2 point conversion all he had to do was put his hands up there and that ball was his, instead he half***edly tried to pull it into his body and didn't fight when the defender pulled it out. TO quit on the field, just like always, although he didn't have a sideline meltdown like in prior years. I guess he deserves some kind of 'not quite a toddler' credit for that?

I don't know about that, I think it's safe to say Romo was not playing at his best...
The ball for the 2-point conversion looked too low, he caught it but it was in good position to get stripped.
Oh, I thought when you said "TO quit" I thought you meant he left the game.

Hey guys, did you know that the Cowboys were playing the Patriots today? And that both teams are 5-0?
Wowee zowie, this game should be exciting!

4:15 in about an hour, Patriots are obviously going to win, but in my heart I really want the Patriots to lose.

a surge of pass rushers, a desperate lob pass, TO catches it and brings it in for a TD. hmmm. this should be interesting.
