After some teething problems with securerom or whatever its called, i played the crusades campaign and i must say what an excellent game! This expansion pack kingdoms is totalwar at its finest!! (singleplayer) If anyone has any doubts as to the quality of the single player game trust me its the best in the series yet! Easily worth the 15 or 20 pounds and ive only played the crusade campaign.
Theres always something new happening in the campaign like uprising or the venetians being added to the game even tho theyre not on the map, heros being introduced to the game at certain time points (not just the special ability ones) ai using naval assault tactics etc, i like it ALOT!
The combat feels great, no more does the ai attack with a few units and rout in seconds, in most of my battles v the ai there have been full battle lines that hold for a good amount of time (on very hard very hard), i also love the contrast in the factions units, most battles involve 3 or more armies its just great :D
Theres also a good amount of units to change throught the game which keeps it interesting, i have to say this is the best totalwar SP campaign ive ever played including the great mod campaigns out there! Cant wait to try the other campaigns with the exception of americas maybe (just not my thing).
Well i read alot of negative things in the forums, are you guys playing a different game? This believe me is SP totalwar at its finest definately the peak of the series so far :D We never had it so good the guys at ca have implimented tons of stuff that the community has asked for both on the campaign map and the battle map.
Thanks alot CA perfect exp pack! Now all u got to do is get MP right ;)
Sooo looking forward to what the modding community can do with kingdoms D
Its everything i wanted in totalwar for the single player campaign.

I give it a big :2thumbsup: as well.
It's like Viking Invasion x4 and I love the atmosphere of the campaigns, as well as the unique elements like culture in the Brittania campaign. I'm loving it.

Posted this in 2001 finally it made it in game erm 6 years later :p
"While reading about the current problems with reinforcemnets in the total war series i had an idea........
Why for crusaders do they not make reinforcemnet armies ai controlled bodies, this would make the single player campaigns an absolutely fantastic spectacle, i mean they could even go as far as assigning keys to give the aii controlled armies orders like halt or advance on the enemy, personally i think this would be a fantastic feature i mean we can have 4v4 custom battles already, with the player fighting along side the ai so why not in campaign mode, another feature id like to see added is the ability to control more than 16 units in one army.
Just a thought but one that i think would really improve the game.
Swoooooooooooooooooooooooosh
"
THe origonal thread https://forums.totalwar.org/vb/showthread.php?t=8285 back in the good old days when the ai dident even control any reinforcements. NIce to see they added ai army commands.
Heh looks like all 3 ideas made it in the series over the years, i wonder if CA ever read the post.

I like the Crusades Campaign but I really have a hard time understanding what the AI is trying to accomplish. It either seems overly aggressive or overly passive. The Kingdom of Jerusalem gets Overrun even while it has stacks to fend off the Egyptians, whilst the Seljuk Turks wont send their massive armies after me even while I take their cities one by one. I must say this isn't a complaint so much as me being puzzled by what's going on. In any event I agree its a pretty fun campaign what with the historical figures, crusades and events. Good stuff indeed.

That's Ye Olde MTWII AI at it's best. Weave your way between massive stacks of professional troops to reach their capital, lay siege for as many turns as you like while those men wander aimlessly in the badlands. Wrap it all up by exterminating their homelands. Maybe the troops are all out foraging? Maybe they're all cowards? :inquisitive:  :shame:

Dear All:
Good afternoon from Canada!! I hope this finds you and yours well. As for me, I could complain...yadda, yadda, yadda.
Yet, there's no way on this green Earth I can complain about Kingdoms! I love the way it has the world divided up into nice manageable chunks, so to speak. The furthest north you can get in the Crusades is the Byzantine Empire. It's well worth the money I paid for it, not to mention the one day wait I had for my games shop had shipping problems.
Now, do any of you guys know how far south the Britannia Campaign goes? I mean, France has got figure in there somewhere!!!
Live long and prosper, take care and thank you kindly!!!!
Sincerely yours always,
Indy.
Well said OP! I considered opening a thread like this, but now I don't need to ^^ Kingdoms is definatly the BEST expansion pack I've *ever* bought, and it's completely awesome. I love the tweaks between the different campaigns, and for the first time, NORWAY is in as a faction! (not just "vikings" or "norse", actually Norway!)
GREAT work CA, keep it up!

Thank you for the America's campaign which is really brilliant. Blown away by the great music (doing my little wardance on loading screens), the feel of it and love the Apache tech tree progression cos it's so not like the way I want things but ack can't stop playing it.:logic:

I'm playing the America's campaign as the Apachean - and while I'm building up momentum, I've been involved in a knockdown dragout fight for 40 turns with those damn Chichimecs! While I have also been fighting the French to the North East, I'm finding it extremely challenging.
Now that I have thunder braves and mouned apaches its become easier - but on VH/VH its been the best game I've had in ages. The balance and AI do seem to be better than in the Grand Campaign.
So I'm waiting to play the other campaigns - but overall a big :2thumbsup: for Kingdoms.

France does not figure into the Brittannia Campaign at all. I think at that time , the King was struggling just to hold onto his country. Also I think that is around the time of the Second Crusade, but I could be mistaken.

Why would France figure in a campaign set during the reign of Henry III? What possible justification could there be for that?
Henry's father presided over the loss of England's French territories and France's only involvement in the baron's war was Louis acting as arbiter between the two sides. Including Norway as a full faction was dubious enough but adding France would be ludicrous.
Unless you're getting mixed up between Henry III and Edward III?

yes i got to say they did a great job on kingdoms and i hope they keep up the good work!thanks for giveing the byzantine empire greek fire and a new hourse unit.the ai is much better.now it knows when to try to end a war ,and don't fight to the death most of the time.

Could be all those numerals at the end of those King's names! It's easy enough to do. :dizzy2:
The worst had to be the King of Jeruselum, too many Baldwins for me. :inquisitive:

No, worst has to go to either France or Venice.
France get on the list for calling all their kings Louis, apart from the Henri once a century or so.
Venice weren't normally that bad but get an honourable mention for the Mocenigo family. One generation had no less than nine brothers, all called Alvise. One of them became Doge and had six sons, who all got called - you guessed it - Alvise.....

:2thumbsup: for this text.
But ,seriously, it seems like it really 4 absolutely different campaigns. I may not happy with balance of units in Teutonic campaign i play, but i never saw situations like this in its strategic AI gameplay. Comparing Teutonic campaign with original MTW2 i found AI much more effective and challenging, i can never build "enought" units to fight it without beeng overhelmed. Now, if AI lays siege on my town, and i entering his territory with half-stack of units, AI lifting siege and come to defend region i entered.
So, thanks CA for improwing AI in Teutonic campaign.

Sounds like George Forman naming all his sons George. :inquisitive:

Must have been hard at family gatherings when you ask for Alvise to pass the potatoes. I can imagine them all using the DeNiro line from Taxi "You talkin' to me?"
