View Full Version : BUG: Zoom level of strategy map is not remembered

I always zoom the strat map all the way out to view the most area at once. Alas, after every turn ends, every game save, etc, it always returns it to zoomed IN all the way so I have to crank it back out.

It should really remember the player's zoom level and return it to that at the beginning of every turn, or just not auto-zoom in after every turn when showing the AI moves.

Make it optional or something or just remember the player's zoom setting and return to that after showing AI moves.

Ive got the same problem - told activision about it and piper said he didnt have the problem - so he reckoned it was a mouse thing.

Im not covinced though.

(im using an optical intellimouse btw)

http://www.totalwar.org/ubb/rolleyes.gif It's a game bug (or lack of feature), has nothing to do with anything else. Don't let them BS you.

Well - seeing as i've known Piper for about 6 years and hes also a friend of mine, I kind of doubt hes bullshitting me.

If he says it works fine on his copy then it does...along with those who said it works ok on their copy on my forums.

I'll pass on your concerns though.

Not having that problem here, but i'm not using an intellimouse either, so for what it's worth...

Well those of you not having the problem probably aren't playing with the stratmap zoomed out so you obviously wouldn't notice it.

Also I'm not using an intellimouse anything but I am experiencing this, so it is not mouse specific.

It's totally unrelated to hardware - it's simply that if you like to play with the stratmap zoomed out, you will continuously have to zoom it back out after every turn starts for you because during the AI movement part of the turn the game zooms in the stratmap and never zooms it back out to the user's setting.

that'd be the bit where i say "I have the same problem"...

I spoke to Activision about it and they said they didnt have the problem.

Piper, the Activsion guy i spoke to, who is a personal friend and not a bullshitter as you so kindly suggested, said his game stayed at whatever zoom level he set it at. Perhaps it was a mouse issue or something else.

If lots of other people found similar issues they'd look into it though.

Of course, because they are all BULLSHITTERS, this means they wont.

So - I really wonder why you bother to post about it jrock? After all they are only bullshitting that they will do anything about it - so why waste your time?

Okay look, you're obviously confused.

I posted my issue, one that other people have corroborated is indeed an issue.

You say you spoke to someone at Activision and they told you they don't have the issue.

I didn't know the Activision guy was some friend of yours, so I said hey they're probably BSing you, because that's what tech support will do.

Then you say he's your "friend" or whatever, so probably not BSing you. Fair enough.

Then people are suggesting it's a mouse issue. Anyone who suggests that knows nothing about computers. The physical device is not the issue here - the issue is software-side - I have a setting of zoom, after I hit End Turn, the game zooms it way in while showing all the AI moves, and then it lets me start my next turn, but it never returns to the zoom to where I had it. So at the start of every turn I have to zoom it all the way back out. SOFTWARE ISSUE INVOLVING THE GAME NOT REMEMBERING A PLAYER'S ZOOM LEVEL OR JUST NOT RETURNING TO THE PLAYER'S ZOOM LEVEL. VERY SIMPLE.

Now please stop posting your irrelevant, uncomprehending, silly comments about me and my opinion of the issue. Thank you.

This thread is a bug report, not something up for discussion with you.

Perhaps if you don't watch the AI moves. You can turn them off. Maybe that's why they don't see the issue.

I'll try it when I get home to see.

I don't seem to have that problem...my view stays zoomed in or out after a turn. Anyway, it could be mouse relevent...There are quite a few programs that don't remember a mouse scroll position either upon refresh, close of a tool window and so on. A mouse is an input device and does influence these things if a button or scrollbar is used as a viewing variable.

I bet you're right! No wonder they don't notice it, they probably don't have Show AI Moves on.

Confused? No im not confused, and piper is anything but "tech support". Which is why he wont be bullshitting me, he could be talking total rubbish but that's another matter entirely.

Dont be rude little fella - ive been helping you out with all your problems with the campaign game even though you've never once said "ty".

I have NEVER seen the game "zoom in all the way" when showing AI moves.
The game focuses to a mid zoom whenever it shows AI moves. (presumeably your "bug" and not as you first reported it as "zooming in all the way")
The game does not change zoom without AI moves on.

Feel free to continue to be rude though - however, i will not be helping you with any more campaign problems.

A little bit of politeness costs nothing.

You really need to learn that you don't run this site and are not god here. Please - RELAX.

I have not been rude, however you have consistantly poked little barbs at me. Stop that.

Now to the matter at hand - as I have explained SEVERAL TIMES NOW - the game zooms in when displaying the AI moves. It never zooms back out to my zoom level.
That is the issue/bug/whatever you want to call it. I was requesting a fix for that in the patch.

That is all. It's a simple issue - stop making a bigger issue out of it than there is.

The politeness issue is on your end, not mine, friend. I do welcome your input in threads where you actually help and solve problems - that's cool and is appreciated. But having you disagree with an issue I am having does no good and is of no help, it's just simply annoying.
You act as if I'm lying about this or as if I don't know what I'm talking about. That is annoying and rude, especially to someone who knows a good deal about computers, hardware and software. Just because you know a lot more about MTW than I do doesn't suddenly mean you can contradict my bug report and act as if it doesn't exist. Just because you have "Show AI Moves" turned off doesn't mean the bug isn't there, it just means you aren't using the settings that make the bug apparent. I like to show the AI moves, but it's tedious when you have to constantly zoom the map back out after every "AI moves" section of each turn.
A simple fix that either removes the zooming in to begin with or remembers the player's zoom level and returns to that after the mandatory zooming would fix it. Again, very simple, so please stop arguing with me. Thank you.

Do you even know what the comment meant? Apparently not.

He said he talked to someone who told him oh it must be an issue with your mouse. That is typical tech support BS, and I said as much. THEN LATER he clarifies and says it's a friend of his who works for Activision so he doubts it was BS. I then said oh okay. So it's not BS, it's just neither here nor there and does nothing to solve the bug/issue. IOW what his friend told him is irrelevant to the actual issue (maybe his friend misunderstood the issue or whatever).

You act like I was intentionally saying a friend of his at Activision was BSing him. If that's what you see, you lack an ability to grasp the chronology of the posts in a thread and the fact that I don't know who "piper" is other than the name of whom he spoke to at Activision (later he explained its a guy who he knows, again chronology of thread).

You know I really don't care that you drag this thread on - it's just helping keep it up top until CA gets back from holiday. That way they will see this and hopefully explain the issue and maybe even fix it in the patch.
