Hi everyone,

In the past I've tried to destroy the enemy's siege equipment before they can reach my walls, but I've found that it's practically impossible. Flame arrows just shoot through the siege tower and never does any damage. Even the fire arrows from my towers (Stone Wall) don't even do any damage. I would hover my mouse over their siege tower and rams and see that after all those barrages of fire arrows, these siege equipment would sustain exactly 0% damage. Several times I've used catapults to attack siege towers, but still it wouldn't do anything.

The first time that I used siege towers, somehow the AI was able to burn one of my towers down. It took a while for the tower to be destroyed though as I was able to bring 1 full group + 1/2 of another group onto the walls before it collapsed and kill the remaining men of the second group.

Another thing, what's the deal with ladders? It's pretty easy to simply push them off of your walls, but not in the game.

By the way, I'm using vanilla RTW v1.5. The reason this is important is because against the Romans I would have to not build Stone Walls because their superior infantry would kill my phalanx units and take control of the walls + the towers.

You have said every technique i know to destroy enemy siege equipment. As a short term measure you could put your best infantry on your walls until someone finds a solution to your problem it is possibly a bug.

Hi gummybear00,
I'm not quite sure, but I think there is a bug somewhere which prevents flaming arrows from archers causing any significant damage to siege equipment. I am positive that wall towers and artillery do have an effect, however, and usually it is rather noticeable, more so in the case of artillery.

I'm at a total loss as to what could be causing the weapons to be so overpowered though - I've never quite heard anything comparable to what you have described. Until you find a resolution, as a temporary arrangement for siege weaponry, you may want to send out your troops to attack the pieces and cut them up from the base. Unfortunately, you will have to fight off enemy troops while doing so, so you may experience more losses than you would normally.

I hope your problem is resolved soon, good luck, cheers!

Welcome to the .org

That's really strange, i used with success the methods you decribe in v1.5. Never heard of this before.

So other people are able to destroy these siege equipment?? My installation of RTW is pretty much a clean install so it's strange that I'm having different results.

YOu could try using the Barbarossas Balancing mod here: https://forums.totalwar.org/vb/showthread.php?p=1654723

to see if it makes anydifference at all. It is strange as i play a lot of seiges, until you get it resolved you should just abandon the walls and hold them off in the town center you'll find life a lot easier especially with Phalanx units.

By the way Welcome to the org.

His problem is that he thinks that fire arrows etc do damage to the towers. This is not true, what happens Gummybear is that fire arrows have a chance to set towers/rams on fire they then burn for a while before collapsing. Not until you get to Huge stone walls will the arrows actually do damage to the towers.

You cant push ladders off :( which sucks but meh.

You're playing as a phalanx faction I see, if you want to be really dirty then put all your army in the city center except maybe a missile unit or two (You will lose it probably) And deploy your phalanxes to stop up all the streets into the square = massacare :D

Yes I've finally seen this after playing for hundreds of turns. One of my fort's towers actually lit a ram on fire and eventually the ram broke down. It was such a rare occasion too since I've had at least hundreds of sieges happen without ever damaging their siege equipment. Thanks for the help everyone.

As for the phalanx in city streets, it doesn't always work for me because my smaller cities have wide open streets and 4 ways into the square. The AI usually attacks with 4 rams, but your gate makes a much better choke point than a street. I can have phalanx units much deeper in formation so even heavy calvary won't break through.
