Hey there,
While I’m new to the forum and somewhat skilled at the game, I thought I’d try to to start a succession game with a couple people if there are any takers. I’ve played a number of them in the Civilization series, so I have a pretty good handle on the process. I will start the game with the first 20 turns, and we will each play 10 turn rounds after that.
Here are our rules.
M2TW Version 1.2 no mods. I don’t have Kingdoms, but if a couple want to sign up who do have it, I can upgrade to 1.3.
Name of the game: Kingdom of Spain
Settings: Hard/Hard
As a guide, team members should take no more than 48 hours to pick up the save and another 72 hours to play. Please let us know if you will be away or unable to play during that time.
As Spaniards, we are true defenders of the faith, driven to explore the world and profit from it! Diplomats and merchants will be active, as well as strong navy as we progress.
We must always have good relations with the pope. Our faith must always satisfy his holiness, but we should aim to inspire him. We start out a bit below that, so we will need to work on climbing the pope-o-meter ASAP through religious building, priests, bribes… er shall we say donations to the church, etc.
We must answer all calls by the pope. That means joining Crusades when called upon and ceasing hostilities when it is demanded. Hostilities mean no killing, and immediately ending sieges in progress. Troops should be moved out of the territory of the faction we are in conflict with and a reasonable effort should be made to restore the peace.
We must always have a diplomat stationed outside Rome. Outside Rome simply means staying within 1 turn movement range. Our first hired diplomat will head off to Rome immediately. If our Papal diplomat dies at any time, our closest diplomat must move to replace him. Ideally we want a skilled one there to facilitate deals with the Papal States. That diplomat can conduct discussions with any other party in the immediate area of Rome.
We should always strive to have the most up to date religious buildings in cities.
We cannot actively war on Catholic factions. Excommunicated ones are fair game. Spying on any faction is ok. Assassination only against non-believers or excommed ones.
If we are declared upon by Catholic factions, we can actively defend ourselves. We may attempt to capture their cities.
If we capture a city against any catholic faction in good standing, we cannot exterminate the population of the city. We should aim to occupy it, and only sack if necessary. After battle, we cannot execute prisoners of a Catholic faction. They can be ransomed, but we shouldn’t use it as an exploit if we know they can’t pay. Nonbelievers and excommunicated factions are fair game.
We should be active in attempting to hold influence in the College of Cardinals. That means lots of skilled priests. The Moors should be able to help us out there.
In terms of general strategy, early moves will be to drive the Moors off the peninsula. We cannot declare on France or Portugal, but sooner or later they may try something against us and we can respond by punishing their aggression. We may even get lucky with the pope excomming the French. I’ve seen that a few times, and it might provide a nice opportunity for a quick Crusade against Toulouse.
We will try to be active with diplomats getting out into the world to get maps, gold, and the like. Keeping in character we should try to remain on solid relations with those factions that the pope favors.
After we have the peninsula secure, we can look at expanding territories in Africa and mid-late game the New World. We may want to secure Timbuktu and get a couple merchants down there to improve our trade situation.
Missions requested by guilds or other factions can be accepted as long as they do not violate any of our rules with regards to actions with other factions.
Discussion points. What do we do with our two princesses. Urraca and Theresa? Maybe send them in search of a suitor within the HRE or Venetian factions? Maybe snag a Teutonic stud at some point. In any case, excommed factions would be off-limits as suitors.
Do we take out the rebels first, or block the Straits of Gibraltar and go right for the Moors?
Players can save the game in-progress and post here if they have questions and feel a group discussion is warranted. It might help us all learn a thing or two.
Feel free to role play to your hearts content as the faction leader or or any characters in the game. A good story makes for a good game!
