Each faction has a unique hero. I don't recall getting one as the Irish. What do they get, a swift kick in the rump?

I thought that was for the crusades campaign only?

The "hero powers" are Crusades only. But I believe in Britannia each faction gets a particular leader who has a special trait and a unique appearance on the battlefield. The list, I think, is:

England: Edward I (starting as a Prince, leaves on the Crusade and can return)
Scotland: William Wallace (emerging)
Wales: Llywelyn ap Gruffydd (starting)
Ireland: Brian O'Connor (starting)
Norway: Haakon IV (starting, or emerges quickly)
Barons: Simon de Montfort (faction itself is emergent)

I'm not sure about England though, never played as them.

Thanks be to jesus. Your's is akin to methylated spirits, to help burn away the battered mars bars stuck your palate whereas ours is a refined drink for gentleman, ballad singers, kings and poets and comely maidens on crossroads. If I wanted scots whisky, I'd take my glass into the urinal.

and the answer to the main question

......................... royally f****d.

So there IS a use for Bells. (I guess it would be useful for disinfecting drains too).

Do pubs in Ireland serve Jock whisky in their toilets? Strange people...

Anyone for a nice glass of Canadian Rye? :hide:

Gee, when I started this thread , I didn't think one comment would start some very funny exchanges.

I think both Wales and Ireland get short-changed on the special general unit stack. Edward comes back with a full stack of Templar units and some nice qualities. The Norse get a better kings purse, extra ships, and a nice assortment of units. Scotland gets William Wallace, who not only gets a stack but some veteran units also. Gee , I wonder if a certain movie influenced something there.

Don't get me wrong, I just thought there would be something else. Nothing better than kicking the **** out of William Wallace as every other faction.

BTW just so people don't throw things, I have nothing against the Scots.

Wales not only gets the heroic and oh-so-good-looking Llewelyn, but they're also a bit harder than usual to completely conquer, since if any of their starting three provinces are taken, they get free armies.

They also get free reinforcements for conquering provinces bordering on their starting lands.

All this courtesy of the redoubtable independence of the Welsh!

Wales doesn't really need any special bonuses, though. Welshmen are just that good!

(Oh, and insert very funny drunken Irishman joke here. ^_^)

So the Irish get shortchanged again. Except once you conquer Ireland, there is no one challenges you for it. I thought the Norse would ,but in every campaign I've played;within 5 turns of the Wallace annoucement, they are gone. He probably scared them to death.

Well, for about 5 turns they do :sweatdrop:

After that it's back to 2000...

yes, but if you are aggressively attacking Scotland, William Wallace or not , the Norse should be ale to overrun the Scots. I've done it twice.

Yes, definitely. However going from a King's purse of 9500 to one of 2000 did upset my economy quite a bit.

:balloon2:

Absolutely! But then I quit repair those units and just marched them around Scotland pillaging , etc until I got the economy off the ground. I then turtled for a couple of turns to consolidate my gains..
