Hail all,
I got some great new for people who play in MP. The 4v4's run GREAT! I played a few 4v4's today and had no lag in 2 of them and about 5 seconds of lag in the end of one (very end). The 4v4's ran better than 99.9% of the 4v4's I played in STW. Now if they can only work on that font they use. I think I'm going blind in foyer.
Just an update from your friends across the pond http://www.totalwar.org/ubb/smile.gif .

i envy you, dont go on about it, it makes us brits and europeans anxious.
i still have not found out why a CA gave it to you guys first, when CA is a british organisation.

Simply money - it isn't unlimited. If you have x amount of money you can spend in x amount of time, where would you spend it - in your largest market, or some other market?

CA are the devs not the publishers. The latter (Activision) take care of the distribution, advertisment and hype on the game. And they're American.

Yeah but surely lag is lag and happens across all games. It just depends on your connection and so on.
So Dth what connection do you have?? Cuz that maybe the reason.

The chat looks almost exactly like the STW and ME rooms, however they used an Old English type font which makes it really hard to read.
Also different...
1.)there isn't a notification of a person entering the room
2.)there isn't a total room count
3.)games don't dissapear when they go into action (makes for long scrolling to find a game accepting players).
4.)private chat is all screwy, it keeps resetting every few seconds so you can't keep people que'ed for very long...
5.)you can't tell who is hosting a game...there is a game name you can assign now.

The best thing to do is to name the game after your own nickname. My games are always called UglyElmo. That way you know who the host is and when i ask for players they know where to go.

Actually the Chat room looks almost identical to STW except they have chosen to use a medieval type face. When you correlate that with all the mEdIEval kEWldOOds you begin to go cross-eyed trying to read things.

yup. the main foyer is pretty much the same. it's missing a count of the total number of players logged in.
i havent experienced the private chat bug. i sat and talked to fucy for quite a while in private chat without it reverting to public message.
there is no map display for anyone but the host and he can only see it while doing the setup as the host.
there are no private rooms, just the foyer.
the font is indeed very small and hard to read.
havent tried the #ignore yet.
games show more information in the display right under the games window.
games show as not accepting any more players, currently being played, almost over, and the info on the game while still waiting for players.
when returning from games, players still show as in game and you cant private message them.
when returning from games, you cant see new games posted unless you log out and back in.
there is no rating on players.
there are no comp or friendly options.
when the game starts you now can see who is lagging while each player connects up to the host. it displays each player's name and percentage numbers of how far along in the connect they are. very nice.
you can now see allies moving around during deployment.
each faction can only be played by one person.
there are 3 icons in the picking army phase, an infantry, cavalry and siege engine icon. cilcking on one of these brings up those types of units to pick from.
when your army has 16 units you can still see the information about each unit you've picked by running the cursor over it. you couldnt do this in stw/we/mi.
the florins designated for attacker and defender shows up in the foyer when moving the cursor over that game, along with the other pertinent game info. (i saw one game where the guy was trying to trick folks by giving his team 99,999 florins while the opposition got about 1000...lol)
the deployment zones are now NOT all scrunched up into the left side of the map. they are proportionally spread out across the entire side.
you must have a gamespy account before making a game account. i suggest all you folks that still dont have the game, do this while waiting.
when registering for a GAME account (not the gamespy account), you will need to enter an email address, the name you wish to use, a password and your cd key. this one has caused some problems and there are also some 'bad' cd keys out there. here's what you ..shld.. do and what you ..shld.. expect:
enter YOUR valid email addy.
pick a name for yourself (certain keyboard characters now wont work, things like !@#$%^&, etc, are invalid)
enter the password you wish to use.
click on where it says 'enter cd key'
enter the cd key found inside your cd case EXACTLY as you see it. it IS case sensitive and DOES require the dashes.
HIT RETURN! if you dont hit return the cd key will NOT be remembered, even if you click the checkbox to 'remember password'.
hit continue.
this ..shld.. begin the log in process. it's a bit longer than it was on the EA servers, so be patient.
if this didnt work, check your cd key entry again.
if you still cant get in, you may have a bad cd number. call tech support at activision.
apparently a number of the things listed above are going to be addressed by CA. gil can confirm any of this when he's back from vacation.

As far as CD keys go, any 0's that appear in the CD key are ZERO's and not the letter "O". Use ZERO not "O".
That will get you on the server a micron faster.

And, about the failures and mistakes listed by Kraellin... someone knows if CA/Activition/GameSpy are goin to work for a solution??
DthB4Dishonour,
Don't forget all the players are in the continental US right now. Once people from all over the world start playing you're likely to see more lag in games where players are on different continents.

Hey all,
I have a DSL connection for those of you who are curious. However even in STW I had bad luck with 4v4's. In STW I was lucky if 10% of my 4v4's went through without someone dropping and with a tolerable amount of lag. Kraelin was very through in his description, but I have tons of problems in private chat. It keeps dropping name. Foyer is like STW but very unpolished.
Dont know when games are up just gotta put cursor over every game. Very often names of people who speak are not shown and names of people who logged out are still shown.
I think I figured out key to lag in the few times I have had it in 4v4. It usually happens when 1 faction has been annihalted or is helpless and that player tries to esc. All generals will blink on mini except for that general, after lag goes away host (me) gets message ": player xyz has quit".
Also sad to say we have a good amount of arrogant Americans there. (I'm american) They are often obnoxious and think they invented game. (me, kokeno and RTK8Goedfrey showed a few how it is done). We played a few in 3v3 about 4 times and we won easily each. Every time a particular opponent said Kokeno sucked and used a wide spectrum of excuses for his shortcomings as a general. One game this opponent got mad and said "damn I didnt set my Trebuchets and men up for the way you were coming (like kokeno should've went uphill)you came the wrong way cheater, I dont know why my men ran You SUCK MajesticKokeno". There are a few good spirited newbies and a few honourable Vets there but I welcome and await the arrival of Euro's and the bulk of the Totalwar vets.

It doesnt matter that it was developed in the UK, the physical CDs were burned in the USA and the packaging etc was done in the USA as well.
Therefore the USA was geographically the closest market whereas thousands of boxes would have to be shipped overseas before it is available there.
They didnt release it in the USA just because they wanted to rub US superiority in your European faces, despite what some on this board appear to believe.

The UNITED STATES is the world's largest economy, no other nation even comes close. The US hosts like 20-25% of all economic activity in the world, so it is obvious more greenhouse gas emissions come from the USA.
However in dealing with OTHER pollutants, especially the most dangerous ones, nations like China and Russia surpass the USA.
When considering EFFICIENCY, that is: pollution emitted per $$$ generated by the economy, the USA is one of the cleanest countries in the world, right up there with Europe.
Nations like China and Russia may not produce as much total pollution as the USA, but considering they also contribute far less to the global economy, they are actually very dirty polluters compared to their GNP.
As the Chinese economy grows because European and US companies flood their markets, you will see that I am right. The fact that the Chinese wipe out their native forests does tremendous damage to the world because we all lose a massive pollution sink.
But it is easier for people who don't know anything about real environmental science to just insult the US President because that is the "cool" thing to do in Europe nowadays.
DthB4Dishonour,
I played MTW against CanCritter in a 4v4 and with Obake in a 2v2 yesterday. Both of these players traditionally have troubles staying in a game of WE/MI due to their internet connections. However, they were able to play MTW without dropping, so, based on that limited testing, the game does appear to be working better than WE/MI in that regard.
When a battle starts you are at a black screen with a digital meter displayed for each player in the game which shows the progress of their initialization into the battle from 20% to 100%. You can see which players who are taking longer to get fully connected with all the other players in the game. The battle launches when every player reaches 100% connection. The game seems much more tolerant here than WE/MI in regard to waiting for the slower players to make it to 100%. I haven't seen any drops during this initialization phase.

yuuki,
i tried playing some games on sunday with elmo. in the first attempt of a 4v4, 2 players dropped immediately after this initialization phase, so we started over. during the next one i got a message that i'd been dropped during the initialization and we found out everyone else had as well. on the third attempt we changed hosts and this time i watched the little meter and everyone moved to 100% except one guy who stayed at 20% forever, so i quit out, but on returning to the foyer i was the only one who had returned and the rest of the players had stayed in and played the game. dont know what happened there. so in 3 consecutive attempts, not one game launched correctly. add this to many attempts to get players into the game and keep them there long enough to pick armies and launch, i finally got fed up with this roughly 2 hour process to get into a game and play, and finally just left.
i do like the meter thing. i would suggest that folks not attempt to chat during this phase as it may be screwing things up. yes, if you are 100% connected you can chat while this phase is going on. i could also scroll around the map even though it's a black screen. i happened to have the radar map at the time and i could see as i moved my mouse around the little cone shaped facing indicator moving around on the radar map, and i could even see very tiny portions of the map on the main screen, including the deployment zone 'posts'. normally i wouldnt be attempting these things in this phase, but that one guy, or myself, was already locked at the 20% mark so i was getting bored in waiting.
