Hey European Orgahs, my friend is throwing a European themed party, and he needs your assistance. Apparently, he's been having trouble finding music. So on his behalf, could any kindly European member of the .org provide the top 40 list in Germany, France and the UK? (and any other nation in Europe for that matter.) Other European based party music would be appreciated too.

Trouble finding music?
What?! You should be tripping over great bands from Britain. The Beatles, Queen, Led Zepp and the Proclaimers! oh wait...
France and Germany? The Insane Yorkist summed it up pretty well.

Rammstein is really good German music, but it might not fit your tastes, it's a tad heavy.

Madsen is a bit lighter and worth listening to but not awe inspiring.

Die Aertzte (the ae represents an umlaut, an a with two dots over it) can be fun, but I heard so much of it in Germany because my host brother loves them that I hardly have a valid opinion anymore.

Die Toten Hosen are also fairly fun, if a tad old.

Hmmm what else, Puhdys can be good, even though they are older than Die Toten Hosen.

I can't think of anything else off the top of my head, good luck!

German Pop music is horrid, heard some of it on exchange. They have good techno (if techno is ever good).

I agree with Uesugi on the bands he mentioned.

Scandinavian black and death metal should cover most of your needs.

Norwegian black metal is hilarious:yes:

I'm not very into the pop-scene and I hardly know of any bands. Why not play distinctly European music instead of what tops the charts in Europe? It's mostly American artists or artist who sound as if they were Americans.

Sweden's pride is the world-famous invention of "käng-punk" (literary [combat]boot punk), try the bands Mob 47 or Moderat Likvidation, it's surprisingly easy to come by - you'll probably hate it though. What music is your friend into anyway? "Party music" could mean a lot of things, to some people it's downright depressive bands like Joy Division (very European, btw) and to others it's brain-dead house music.

brain-dead house music.
:furious3:

That's a matter of taste, mind you, but it's not brain-dead, at least not all of it.

I think Kenshin already gave some of the more popular choices.

French Top 40 is full of crap and bad for your health.

It's litterally filled with
1 - Horrid RnB sung by 17 year old brainless babes
2 - Stupid ass rap, spouted by wanabees gangsta boys who think everyone sucks. Even french people can't understand what the hell they're saying, but meh.
3 - Crappy rock, that always sound the same. Even the various singers all look similar : same haircut, same clothing, same voice, same romantic-look-that-makes-16yo-girls-feeling-hot. Most of the times, the lyrics are somehow explaining how the singer felt in love with some random woman he met, or how his former girlfriend left him to date his former best friend. Quite boring I'd say.

There are good bands in France, aswell as good singer, but alas, they all have died/disbanded, or nowhere to be seen in French MTV Top 40.

Oh well, BTW, Tokyo Hotel FTW !!

Since you haven't gotten much replies, I'll add Norway's list:

The essentials:

- Jokke & Valentinerne(or later as "Jokke med Tourettes")
- Raga Rockers
- DeLillos
- DumDum Boys

These four are generally accepted as simply teh best in Norway's musical history, ever. These all sing in Norwegian though, which may or may not be what you're looking for...
Other bands:

- Big Bang - great, and in english. Though they are a lot better live than in studio...
- Animal Alpha - good and tough, in english. Hilarious live, in a good way...
- Audioslave - hard rock type(though not metal), in english
- Turbonegro - norway's best known band in the US. Kind of a merging of pink floyd, nirvana and AC/DC...
- Øystein Sunde - if you understand norwegian, he's great...
- Postgirobygget - most people love them, I hate them. Anyway, they use norwegian.
- Seigmen - good rock band, in english.
- Kaizer's Orchestra - good in Norwegian, but noone understands what they're singing.
- Gluecifer, rock, in english

And the DEATH KILL MAIM BLASPHEME bands...
- Satyricon
- Dimmu Borgir
- Gorgoroth
- Can't think of any more...

Oh, and if you were looking for the top40-list itself...

Eisbrecher is fairly fun too, they're sort of in the same vein as Rammstein, but their music tends to get repetitive fairly quickly.

What about Mayhem?

And Turbonegro is probably the best commercial band from Scandinavia, all time.

That's a matter of taste, mind you, but it's not brain-dead, at least not all of it.

Well, if we stick with house music, I'll stick with the "brain-dead" label, but I used to listen to some "blip-blop" music (i.e. electronical music) when I was about 13 or 14, like Hallucinogen and Shpongle - now that's creative music.

I'm not saying any of this is good, but it does answer your initial question.

German top 40 (http://top40-charts.com/chart.php?cid=12)

French top 40 (http://top40-charts.com/chart.php?cid=11)

British top 40 (http://www.bbc.co.uk/radio1/chart/singles.shtml)

And just in case that doesn't supply you with enough bubblegum pop and hip-hop lite:

American top 40 (http://www.at40.com/rest_chart.html?format=hac&)

I just looked at Lemur's list for Germany and the Fantastischen Vier are definitely worth a look. Yes they play rap (more or less) but it is somehow fun and it doesn't generally have the disgusting themes that most rap has, at least not from what I heard, which was admittedly limited.

I liked one song of Jan Delay's as well, (Feuer or something like that), but I can't say if the rest of his work is any good and I may have liked the song partially because it had a neat music video. It was really catchy too.

Well to take that a bit further we've been dissing Germany for party music without giving them credit for Kraftwerk, without whom, etc etc.

You don't need the Finnish list for anything. Most of it is crap. Just try to find something by these fine artists:

Amorphis
Eläkeläiset
Finntroll
H.I.M.
Nightwish

That should be enough to shock even the most jaded party-goers.
