In my Jerusalem Campaign, the Egyptians seemed to have discovered siege engines. And the AI being the AI has started lobbing full stacks of siege engines + 2-3 Spear Militia at me.

Anyone have good counters for getting those battles over quickly with low casualites using a mostly infantry base? Honestly, they're getting to the point where its just plain tiresome.

Spread your infantry, put them in loose formation and advance towards enemy. If you have any cavalry, move them behind enemy lines. Keep moving your cav, since artillery is very slow to aim moving targets. Use hit and run tactics, charging artillery with your cavalry whenever possible.

Once your infantry reaches their line, charge (I guess it would be better if you put them out of loose formation before engaging).

Since you already have cavalry behind enemy lines, charge into their back once the melee starts.

Auto-calc will often make seemingly tricky battles rather easy, if you just want to win.

You really need some light cavalry. They will prove invaluable when fighting Muslim nations. Given the amount of archers and horse archers they throw at you, I don't see how you can get away with a mostly infantry base. The cata-stacks are another great use for them.

Cavalry will save the day as KOJ. Most of my stacks had four units at least.

Well, I hate autocalc. The main problem with these battles is that they are just so drawn out and that artillery messes up formations because your attackers have to go around them. The funny part of this is that in multistack battles, their artillery kills about 10 times more of them than of my men.

I do usually use massive infantry armies despite fighting muslims... in the desert.

If u really want to fight on foot in the desert, use at least 6 units of missile troops. With the accuracy of those being better in Kingdoms, the AI will lose its cavalry potential in no time.

That's what i do usually and it works fine. One or two light cavalry units to root the remnants and u win the day!

Using light cavalry really makes those battles easy. Especially because mounted seargents can beat the berber camel archers they are so fond of. It also causes the enemy army to freak out and run around.
