on M/VH, Lusted Lands to Conquer, A Jihad was called on Jerusalem where my meagre garrison of 800 malita and 4 peasant archers and two generals were faced with aful stack of Turks. They had 3 Armenian archers, 2 Mamaluk, 1 camel archers, 3 spears, 3 javelins, and a general.
On my first effort I drew them towards the walls and took out a good number of thier ranged units. This prompted me to bring out my forces to face them. Howver with a slow advance i seemed to suffer too many casualties and eventually lost.
Second try I did an auto-complete and I won a heroic victory.
So I tried again, this time I just charged the turks and thier general with everything I had. I killed the general and routed them within a few minutes.
This leads me to believe that sometimes the only tactics are arcade style, rush the general.

The AI is grossly incompetent at sally battles. They have one response to a sally, pull back and sit still. If you have cannons or ballistae you can pick them off one by one and the most they'll do is send out some archers to play with you.

Autocalc removes all benefits from having walls.
