Go to campmap/startpos/Early.txt file. open in notepad..find active factions..change FT_MINOR to FT_MAJOR... the faction of choice becoimes playable (ive not tried this with all, and not investigated it far so...) you may still need to limit it top 12 total factions......

Yeah, but what units would they get then? Wouldn't they get shitty units?

You get whatever the faction can have, not just what they start with..duh..

So if I were say Lithuania I'd just get what I started with and be able to build only Lithuanian Cav?

you would get whatever was avaible to the AI...if the AI could not build, upgrade, or was restriced to 1 unit the game would not be much....

There isn't a Scottish faction as such, so it wouldn't be as simple as playing Hungary or Sicily, but with a bit of work it would be possible.

Yes,It seems your are able to plat any faction that is colored in on the campaign map when choosing factions.I tried playing Novgorad in Late and it didn't show up.Idid play the Swiss and its nearly impossible to do anything.They do start out with some kickass pikes and halbierdiers,oh ya the king and heirs come as 100 armoured Swiss pikemen.

Cool i would wanna be sicily. See how that would be. Just blockade yourself and not many can attack you. Then swarm over Italy and claim the Vatican.

You can change most of the things in the game to suit most flavours.
But if you really want to know about this shit,I think it would get more attention in the modding section where the modders hangout.But anyway I have found it better
to change things wholelisticly.
