View Full Version : Kingdoms: Americas Campaign - How to get Mounted Thunder Braves?

It's my first game in the America's campaign, and i've beaten the French enough to gain access to guns and horses. Despite the fact that I've got plenty of Gun Traders Wigwams and Horse Traders Tipis, I can't seem to build Mounted Thunder Braves, only Mounted Apaches, which have bows and arrows. Do you have to unlock them somehow, by defeating more horse troops or training a certain number of Mounted Apaches?

If I remember, Mounted Thunder Braves are recruited at the Horse Trader's Wigwam. A few more suicide charges at Mounted Cuirassers should give you the opportunity to build them.

Yes, you need the horse trainer wigwam, which requires, I believe, something like 20 wins against armies that have horses, and 20 wins against armies with guns.

Just keep killing palefaces until they show up. I used them, so they do exist.

Ah, I got them. It only took one more battle. Thanks!

How often exactly? I really have a problem understanding the campaign script at this point as the comments seem to talk a completely different language than the code.

What the code says is you need to win 2/3/4 battles against cav and the horse counter will increase to level 1/2/3 respectively. The same for gunpowder only without the last level.

So is it correct that you only need to win three battles against a larger army (i.e. with gunpowder and cavalry) to get all the goodies?

No, that's incorrect. I won a whole lot of battles against gunpowder and cav before I got all the upgrades.

Really?

Maybe it is related to the number of units you kill.

I believe it's a fair number of wins against pale-faces (30 or more) before one gets mounted thunder-braves. My problem was: I killed off the French too fast... and the Spanish were driven off the continent by Mesoamericans. Thus, no more battles against the pale-faces for me and no mounted thunderbraves either. Won the campaign without them.

They're overrated, truthfully. I got them, and built some, but they tend to shoot each other if you have too many moving around. And they don't put out as many shots as thunder braves (who don't seem to have the reforming problem that muskets have).

well, I did not get the mounted thunderbraves myself so I would not know. but, in principle, their advantage would come from the fact that they give an apache player the great advantage of being able to harass enemy long before the opponent reaches the main line and continue gunpowder shots in back after the lines have engaged. at the latter point, foot thunderbraves frequently need to stop because they require a straight, unobstructed line of fire.

I got horse breeder's tipi and gun maker's tipi after 5 wins vs spanish/french troops. Next turn I defeated an other french army (half stack) lead by the faction heir, very next turn I received both horse breeder's and gun maker's wigwam (i.e. I can make mounted thunder braves). ~

There's one big advantage that having mounted troops brings you for the Apacheans:

you can now run down routing units, saves having to fight them all over again.

i got my grubby little hands on the game, and found it easy to just auto-calc some already won battles. Usually the enemy retreats with a few troops, and you can repeat it a few times. In fact, i think i fought the same stack of French Leaders troops about 6 or 7 times before Auto managed to kill him off :laugh4: (this got me both the regular mounted and the gun mounted and thunder braves all in one turn)
