View Full Version : Kingdoms: Americas Campaign - Apache cavalry
Do they exist at all? I played for a while now and i still have to chase down my enemies with all those slow infantrymen. Means I pretty much spend 15 minutes fighting with masses of infantry against other masses of infantry, basically just charge straight in and i can't kill the routing units. So they re-form and I have to fight the same men over and over again.
Id give my captial city for a single unit of light cav... lol
any ideas how or when i can recurit cav with the apaches?
go into strategy forum section and search for apachean strategy for unlocking requirements
You have to defeat armies with cavalry in them a certain number of times. After that, you get a message that you can now build them. Same goes for gunpowder. When you get them both, and have killed a lot with them, you get the "mounted thunder braves", basically a VERY good unit on horses with muskets.
Hope that helped :)

Horses aren't indigenous to North America, so maybe you have to like, capture a spanish city, fortress or something like that.

As someone said, you have to beat either the Spanish, French or English a few times - the more times you do, the more cavalry you can build - also muskets.
It is not as hard to get the necessary victories as it would seem. You need ten victories over gunpowder and or horse units.
To get that, I engaged the French after they came into the picture. I sent three stacks against one. Turn one: attack the stack with overwhelming odds. Win the battle. Catch and release all prisoners. Same turn. Hit the decimated stack with the furthest stack I had. Catch and release again. Same turn. Hit them with the next furthest stack. Catch and release.
By the time I destroyed the stack, I had 8 victories. The next two came fairly quickly after that.
I might add I did not attack into Central American until I had gunpowder units. Too many multiple stack armies of Aztec, Chici, etc to do anything but a defensive war prior to that .
After taking their city in Florida, they popped out and went on the move. I was able to finally hunt them down and destroy them. They did reappear later with another army.
Do other European factions do that? Such as Spain or England?
well, spanish have their king in havana from the start. french land with family member. I mean by that that you can destroy spanish completly because you have all family members on the map. But french are weaker than spanish, their general is 2hp infantry unit not 3 like spanish.
As a native, it's impossible to destroy the spanish becouse their capital is at an island and you can't build boats. You can annihalate the French and English, but they appear later with new armies (you can annihalate them again)

the fella in Havana is not a king, but rather a governor... :) the king is where he is supposed to be: in the dark map area due East unreachable during the new world campaign.

In my Apachian campaign, I destroyed the reappearing French several times. After that, they ceased reappearing at all and did not show up until my full victory.
:)
Somehow I got my apache cavalry and gunpowder with less than 10 victories over armies containing horses.
Maybe it means beat ten units of cavalry or gunpowder units, that would fit better since I just beat three or four french armies and then got the technology.

In my chichimec campaign it always takes 2 victories to get both.
well, chichi dont have(or i just dont see them) mounted gunners so they need to get upgrades fast to have advantage.
I was looking at the unit planner posted earlier on the forum, and it looks like the Apache got the least units of any of the Native American factions. They do look like the most fun though, MOUNTED APACHE & THUNDER BRAAAAAVEEES !!!!. Might finally get the game this weekend.

How about civic technology? Will I ever be able to build stone walls as the Apaches?

I haven't played very long as the Apaches but it seems they cant build a wooden palisade, let alone a stone wall. It makes sense though... However, people in the South have stone walls. Maybe they'd be willing to part with a few cities if you send a big persuasion force...

good times isn't it AND they got cantabrian circle
FANtastic !
Got a feeling my armies will be all Mounted Apache, and later mixed in with some Thunder Braves.
One thing about apachean that i dont like (and i hope it will be fixed in patch) is the fact they are the only faction that worship Great Spirit but everywhere game praise Sun God for them. When they take advantage in battle, when they acomplish war path, when they get assasination missions. Its very minor but always...
I'm wondering why they are called Apachean. I thought Apache is noun, adjective & plural.

Yeah I did too but that's the great thing about English, you can just make a word up if you want and no one seems to mind...
I find "Apachean" hard to say anyway.

Sounds more like a question to someone call Ian who's giving up smoking:
"Apachean?"
"No thanks, I prefer gum."

All the European factions (including Spain when it is AI) has 8 to 10 armies that show up, one every 5 or 10 years after the first contact. You can see the details in the data folder
mods\americas\data\world\maps\campaign\imperial_campaign\campaign_script.txt
that same file also shows how Apaches get their units.

According to the dictionary, Apache is the noun (and plural), and Apachean is the correct adjective. In any case it refers to the people who shared a common language family and was made of many tribes, as I think it says somewhere in the game.
Not that I am an expert or anything, but I have always heard Apache used as the adjective as in "The cavalry attacked the Apache camp"
Yeah, so had I. Thanks for looking that up.
