Well... ive helped as many new players i could... broke up a few fights... smacked a few who wouldnt stop flaming... but im afraid they are still arriving in waves... currently there is one kid who is hosting a game called "playerx is gay" .... most of the time i can get these guys to act right but it seems im loosing ground.. i came in this afternoon to a nightmare.... ill kick you ass...#$@$ you ... your mother blah blah blah... point being....
We need a boot feature... or some other means of chatroom control... filters dont work they just make players be more creative. personly.. i would like a feature of booting a cd key for say 1 hour... if x amount or % of current players click a button to boot an indivdual player. but im sure there are other ways as well.
PLZ HELP!!

Well, it's to be expected...20 people on MI and rude words / bad behaviour is there anyway. Imagine MTW, the great king of strategy games.
Gil has gone on holiday, but the ignore feature is of course a feature that must be included.

As soon is this game hits Australia and England the chat rooms are going to be invaded by cane swinging fogies who constantly complain that the youths are ruining everything. White haired and balding brits standing on a soap box and crying out for the Yankee barbarians to shut their mouths and start playing like adults.... Then of course we've got the caste who will just sit there in the chat room, smoking a pipe on the other side of the internet, and between puffs, typing in "Yeeepp... back in the ole' days we never had to deal with any of these rowdy individuals. Ahhh.. to be...."
I just always feel a bit put down when my generation and age group gets insulted. Yes, for the most part the group is immature... but that is the point of the age. Hopefully we'll get that precious ignore button soon. So I can join the mass body of American youths who are ignored by the old style army(.org) and who in turn ignore each other because we can hardly stand our mirror images.
Just jokin of course but I felt like shouting about something since I'm at a home with the net for a couple days.
I think the point is we need some form of control in the foyer(chatroom)
People with the authority to kick/ban,
NOT a permanent ban, for that we would need the developers or gamespy to step in,
just a temporary ban, say 1 hour.
Such people do not need to be identified, simply because no-one can guarantee when they can be online.
(otherwise some will maintain a list of the moderators, and when they realise none are around may go overboard)
If any of the 'moderators' were to announce themselves as such they should be stripped of status.
If you don't know who is a moderator and who is not you are less likely to tempt fate.

So you think that gives them the right to annoy other ppl? I'm not one of the regular complainers here (I'm a bit rude myself) but if I don't want to hear that annoying moaning I should at least have the option to put the little twat on ignore. Basically they're jst little keyboard heroes but if they would put up that attitude in real life (if they ever get out of the door) they'll be sure to get their asses kicked literally.

I'm all for having a private chat room if it helps you avoid the spammers but you have to mix with newbies for obvious reasons.
How will newbies get accepted and allowed into the circle of power?
Give it a couple of weeks and see if it dies down a bit, summer holidays are over soon!
Ignore button and temporary kicking for complete spammers should be available though.

I hate to tell you this guys, but the chatroom the way it currently stands does not allow other chatrooms like we could do in STW and MI. There is only one lobby and one lobby only. So currently the only way to deal with these few rowdies is by ignoring them. That worked in the past and will work once again, I just hope that we don't lose too many new people do to the nonsense of a few. For the most part though I have not seen many of these people yet like we did when MI first came out.

Elmo is right... server room is bare bones...Cant ignore, cant boot out people,games in progress are shown (blocking view of games open) numbers of people in room not shown, no play search, no big honor name to impress yourself with..and its a bit buggy... people are there but you cant see them. and private chat a pain(must click the name each time u send a message, and sometimes you have to exit to be able to connect to a game..... On the bright side, in game.. you now see when someone escapes, or gets disconnected...

Oh yes forgot... tons of newbies that dont even know how to move! A pain if their your ally, but good for working out in game stuff, Last night I did a 2v2 with elmo Vs 2 newbies......they camped on a hill, and we lined up in a classic L shape and attacked.....you'de think Elmo with his nikes would have caught more of the enemy.....he got about 110 kills, i got only 38... (this was a win for us)(the newbies are now lined up with Elmos nike contract)
And could only scream WTF?? as their troops bolted in mass (the point of this is that now flanked armies now take a big morale hit) Plus ive seen loads of other changes....

I think this could be an improvement:
1. Allow creation of chat rooms (with password, of course);
2. Allow the ability to join multiple chat rooms;
3. Open games are not part of any chat room, all rooms are permitted to see open games;
4. Number of games in progress is displayed, but the name should be taken out of the game list (or move down the list so only open games are displayed on top);
5. In foyer, you are able to see who are logged in, so the foyer is used to scan for people you know.
The reason why in STW, people abandon the chatrooms in favor of the foyer is because only the foyer has games. Once you are in a chat room, you don't see games anymore.

Well, for what its worth I have a younger friend from my hometown who bought the game and the first time he spewed vulgarity I set him in line. Hopefully, he doesnt act up anymore. The funny part is, he meant to priv message me but that since that feature is half-fried it went out to the general public. Anyway, yes, its started. I've found that addressing them as children works well. Say,
"Now, now, children..."
a few times and they (sometimes) back off w/ the vulgarity.
"Settle down, now, kids, its just a game" doesnt seem to work as well...

I have no idea whether they will allow for foyer moderators, and I don't know what the options are for the online foyer, but what if it would be possible to have a Community chat room for ourselves, passworded or not, moderated and with a boot feature that can be given to a number of trusted members of our community?
I'll mail straight away to ask if this could be an option.

Toda feels that Ed is right. The option of a private chat room for perhaps vets who "know" how the community works can play in. Although I always do like to kick some newbie ass, I prefer to play against those who I know and like.
Even just an ORG private room.

Well for what its worth, I couldnt give a damn what people say in the foyer (yes even mum runs http://www.totalwar.org/ubb/biggrin.gif). Come on now we should be old enough and thick skinned enough to be able to ignore the garbage.
What I dont like is scrolling/ spamming - this can't be ignored and does impact on my playing time. Is it possible for their to be some kind of restriction on this and the frequency that messages are sent .
